HD Tuning question

Just got a new Samsung SIR-TS160.  I'm having problems getting the Milwaukee CBS (58) and FOX (6) HD channels. They show up in the guide, but just says searching for signal when I select them.

I noticed in another forum that there is some tower work going on this week.  Is this related?  Is there an outage this week or is it me?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I doubt the tower work is affecting you this morning.  I just checked and CBS 58 (1-1) comes in fine.  Dousman is too far out to get Fox 6's weak signal. I wouldn't expect to get it in Eagle either.  I register a signal but not enough to get a picture.  What type of antenna do you have?  If you can rotate it towards Madison. you may have better luck with CBS from Madison.  I get a more stable signal from them than I do from Milwaukee's CBS.

58 Digital is still running at reduced power. Not as low as 6's but less than the other guys.

If I can get a solid 90 signal strength for 58 in a woods 22 miles away with an unamplified indoor antenna, you guys should be able to get a lockable signal with a rooftop. But with Madison only 13 miles further than 58's stick, Scott's proabably right.

remember Tom, 58 has that directional antenna pointing right at you.  People north and south of 58 will get way worse mileage.  I know that for certain cuz I am south of them.

I always knew that AM signals were directional, but I didn't know TV signals were directional. But I guess it must be true, as I'm only 11 miles from the FAUX 6 Antenna, but there are people further away than that can get it.

Well after 2 days of playing with it, I can get 4, 12, and 10 digital very well.  But 6 and 58 just won't come in.  Also tried Madison, and can't seem to get anything from there.

I'm not using a roof-to so to speak, but a roof-top in my attic, so that could be part of the problem.

I have to say that 12, 4, and 10 digital is very clear and very good.  The only weird thing is that 4 shows up as 4-1, 10 as 10-1,2,3,4,5 but 12 shows up as 34-1.  I'm guessing it's something on 12's end.

Channel 12 doesn't have their PSIP running yet but should be up in the next couple weeks and then you'll be showing as 12-1.

By the way PSIP is Program and System Information Protocol.

The PSIP Standard provides a methodology for transporting digital television system information (ie virtual channel number like 4-1) and electronic program guide data.  It is digitally transmitted with the digital programming.

The standard includes an amendment that provides new functionality known as "Directed Channel Change (DCC)". This feature allows broadcasters to tailor programming or advertising based upon parameters defined by the viewer such as: postal, zip or location code, program identifier, demographic category, and content subject category. Potential applications include customized programming services, commercials based upon demographics and localized weather and traffic reports.

Your reception seems to be consistant with others I know of in the area using an attic antenna.  4, 10, and 34 have good signals but 58 does not have enough strength to produce a viewable image.  Madison stations will not come in either with an attic antenna.

scott:  1st time posting, and i am having the same problem..Living in Wales, can get 4,10,12,21 great.  Cannot get 58, wont even ask about 6.  Even get 3 out of madison OK, with the attenea pointing towards Mlw.  right now too cold to go up on roof to swing ant around.   Any new news on 58 power level?

Thanks

Don't hold your breath...the word was when they went on the air that until they can produce revenue off of DTV they weren't spending money on a High Power Amplifier or the monthly electric bill.  A case of Economies.

Stick with the Madison stations, they're much better.
