but I don't...

Sometime next Spring (May-June) I will have a flat surface on which I will need to mount a 50-55 inch HDTV Monitor. Because it will be mounted, it will need to be not very deep.

Will a plasma be my only option?

Price wise probably Plasma will be your best bet.  LCD's I know of are 45" at 5K and 65" at over 10K.  SED is coming but I'm sure that'll be pricey also for the first generation and I don't expect to see them until 4Q of 06.

I find that hard to believe... LCD more/or as expensive as plasma?  My Elite 43" was under $4500.
The times, they are a changin'.

If the prices were equal would you still recommend Plasma?

I Would.

If you don't need the speakers and tuner. You can get a commercial  Panasonic 50" Plasma for about $3K, but you have to buy the inputs like DVi or HDMI card ($130)  separately.

I'm just waiting for the 1080P plasma.

Yeah.. no speakers or tuner. The run from the box will be approximately 20 feet... will I want to use component cable or something else?

I may also want to run a second simultaneous feed to a second, smaler HD monitor, this one 30 feet away.

Also... is Wireless HD a possibility?

While this is not an advertisement for Flanner's, they just opened up their new home theater store on 162nd and Bluemound and I was in home theater heaven.
Every HDTV forum member should just go out and see (drool) over the displays and setups there as I did last night. The store is awesome!
I introduced myself as one of the forum members and they knew who we were.
While I do not work there (too far to drive from where I live) they do offer an amazing amount of flat panel displays including plasma and LCD with good hookups and arrangements for comparing, including price matching and knowledgeable HDTV salespeople. I have bought many things there in the old location in the past without regrets. :D

My take on the LCD panels is Plasma does it best, still, as I found the LCD panels not as colourful as the plasmas on display and there seemed to a "smear" in the picture when a lot of motion occurred in the program (Discovery HD Theater).

Additionally, there is a really nice 55" Hitachi plasma (Circuit City) set I saw that was another example of a great plasma panel display for your future wall setup...good luck!
