WCGV-DT/WVTV-DT Update

I just thought that I would update all with current plans for our DTV facilities. The long-term plans are to have these facilities up and running at maximum allowable power, and the primary IOT transmission support equipment has been ordered. Antenna and transmission line work is progressing (slowly), and we are hoping to be up and running  by yrears end. However, due to many reasons, the current planned on-air date of Dec. 31 will be at lower than licenced power.

The good news is that even at this reduced power, the broadcast transmission will be through the full service licenced height and antenna system.

We do listen to our viewers. Unfortunately, we are not always able to fully please everyone, and for this we can only offer our sincere apology.

This is just the first of many "(H)DTV steps" for us in this market. There will be further facility upgrades as time passes (increased power), and we ask for your patience. The conversion to digital is an expensive one, mandated by the federal government, and we are doing everything that is possible inside of budget constraints. I hope you do note a major quality difference in what DTV offers you over analog. It will not be HD at turn-on, but one can hope that the new year will bring a great many new things!

Regards,

PS Thank you Tom Snyder for the opportunity to post.

FYI... MisterDTV is Mark A. Aitken, Director, Advanced Technology, Sinclair Broadcast Group. They are the owners of WVTV and WCGV.

Thanks for participating, Mark!

I just wish we would finally learn the following info:
1)Simulcast or not? Date of independent broadcast if simulcast orig?
2)Planned date of HDTV WB Broadcasting?
3)Planned date of HDTV UPN Broadcasting?
4)How much power and expected actual area of coverage?
5)Date of full power?

The above post doesn't answer anything regarding the many of the problems we currently face with Fox 6 and may face with their stations' transmission.

I don't agree with either the simulcasting of CBS or the "Summer 2003" option of Fox 6. They have each however remained firm in their stance, pleasant to deal with, and more than willing to answer questions. That hasn't been the situation when I've called Sinclair to inquire on 2 of 3 occasions in the last 11 months.

I experienced the same lack of meaningful response from Channel 6 for over two years, but for some reason, that has chnaged recently.

I've found Earl from Fox corporate to be quite helpful and friendly. The same with Mark from Sinclair. Keep in mind that these guys are just engineers, and probably don't make the decisions. They are paid by their companies and if they want to remain employed, they do what their job description says. Mark is enthusiastic, and may even be responsible for moving things at Sinclair along faster than they otherwise may have.

That said, I think your questions here are now fair, and I'm eager to hear Mark's response.

I am on my way to DC (I will see Rick Chessen, FCC Chair of the DTV Task Force). I will respond to various questions this week.

Cheers!

It sure would be nice to have "Enterprise" in HighDef....but doesn't look promising!
