I'm familiar with basic HDTV terminology and types, but don't know which brands are preferable.  Would somebody give me (or direct me to a FAQ) a summary of who's good and who's not?

I found ad today for the local Home Theater Store (not a big box) offering Mits 52" DLP HDTV Monitor for $1800.  I gather a monitor needs a tuner - will my DISH sat box feed it directly (I realize I need special programming to get HD from it) or do I need additional component to get a signal to the Mits?

How's this Mits compare in general to other options?  Is the price a good deal (I can get it with 0% until Jan 2008 - very tempting!  Wife reminds me we need new fence, home repairs, pay taxes, etc, etc, etc).

Thanks,
Mike

Seems like a fair price if it is new and not a floor model.

You will need to get a DISH box that is an HD box.  I am not sure what model number it is but if your box can not out put an HD signal you will need to get a box that does.

You'll need the Dish 811 HD receiver or Dish Player 942 if you want an HD-DVR.  If you want the Voom channels, I think they're still sent from the 61.5 orbital location.. so you'll need another dish pointed that way.  Someday they will be moving the Voom stuff to one of the main sats (I think 129)... so maybe hold off until then.  When that happens you'll probably only need a SuperDISH or Dish1000... though I haven't been looking into Dish much lately, so I could be wrong.

Welcome to the forum and hello there in Texas!

The reason the HD monitor set is so low in price is that it is a monitor.
There are many good prices and models similar to the one you are looking at.

Yes, the Dish box will have to be exchanged, possibly for one with a  digital tuner inside of it or maybe cable locally has locals in HD for you.

It was hard to tell where in Plano you are because when I was entering in your  Plano,TX zipcode 75075 I see many local HD stations available from TitanTv so you could have some HD viewing. :)

(Please see the link in this forum for further assistance.)
Then go to anntennaweb.org for antenna size and so on.

This way you can at least get some local HD to make your new HD monitor do what it is supposed to...deliver HDTV in all its glory.

Good luck! :)
