Just a friendly reminder to everyone that Good Morning America goes HD Thursday, November 3rd.

Now what I'm waiting for is all the network news to go HD including all cameras out in the field. HDnet has HD news, but they don't have the worldwide coverage and resources that the networks and CNN have. But at least Mark Cuban got the ball rolling first.

...

but not in Central and Mountain Time Zones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had heard that, but figured it wasn't true.

Anybody know why we don't get it?

That seems odd... I can understand Moutain and Pacific.. but Central gets the same feed as Eastern, doesn't it?

Some posted a Broadcast and Cable article on the AVS forum that explains this:

QuoteNot everyone, however, gets to visit the new world. Viewers in the Mountain and Central time zones won't be able to watch GMA in HD until next spring, because there aren't enough HD satellite paths and control rooms in place to serve the entire country. Even viewers on the coasts are limited; all studio elements shot in Times Square and live concerts held there or in nearby Bryant Park will be in HD, but footage that comes in from remote locations will primarily be in standard-definition.

I think this is a great first step.  ABC could have waited until they can cover all of the country, but they're hitting the coasts first.  It's enough to get the other networks' attention, and a bonus for viewers in those areas.

It will really be interesting once the remote shots are done in HD, and the footage can also be used for the evening news, which would probably help the sagging ratings.

Well we will found out for sure on the 3rd.

By the way..... OFF-TOPIC.....

I was told about this translator page that converts most web pages to black urban street slang. Sooooooooo funny. Just search or type or paste in a full HTTP address and it converts it.

How irritating!!!!  :bang:

GMA Debuted in HD this morning... and with half their national audience NOT being able to get in HD, Diane Sawyer did this huge deal about HiDef.. and how she hoped that even those without HD TV's, would be able to see the extra clarity... they're doing closeups of texture in the co-hosts clothing. And oohing and ahhing about how everyone is seeing it.

Well here in the Midwest, we're NOT! And unless people have been following this thread, they're scratching their heads wondering what all the brew-ha is about HDTV.. "Hmm.. they're saying this is HiDef... I don't see a BIT of diferrence."

I agree, Tom.  I'm also watching all of the hype and find it to be very misleading.  At the very least, they could announce that HD is not available to us here in the Midwest.  The entire show seems to be about their 30th anniversary and their new HD transmission...yet, it's not in HD! (at least not at my house).  I think they really let their viewers down by not explaining this.
