Fox O&O WITI screws up the baseball game...

Pulling the barely HD broadcast to show the end in SD inside of a blue box with the Powerball numbers for 5 minutes is a complete disgrace for which there is zero valid explanation!!!

Watching the baseball game tonite (WS/Angels) on Fox 6 digital....

This has to be one of the worst goofups I've seen.  Bottom of the 9th, in a tie game with the winning run on second...

They decide to switch out of HD broadcasting and put the picture in a small box in the middle of the screen... why?  To show lottery numbers!

It's the 9th inning!  Tie Game!  And of course, as soon as they do that, Crede hits a shot to left to score the winning run!

As soon as the game ends, they switch back to HD.  I've never seen anything like it.

I just think Fox should have used some common sense on showing the lottery numbers.  It's the playoffs.... people can get the lottery numbers online or in the paper.... just poor timing...

That was complete ignorance on the part of FOX6.  Bottom of the ninth, two outs, ALCS, just had one of the potentially most controversial plays in MLB history and they go SD with a shrunken screen to show the Powerball numbers. :mad:  :mad:

I hate FOX's pathetic HD more and more everyday.  Thier football looks like crap and now the local station pulls the HD feed just when the baseball game gets good.

If I was into baseball or football as much as you guys I'd probably be right there ranting with you... so I'm not knocking you for that...

But outside of these sports goofups, FOX6 has one of the most consistently good HD feeds... I've never seen an SD screw-up during one of their FOX shows. So we can at least give them that.

By the way... could a mod merge this with the thread in technical issues? Seems many times when there's a screw-up multiple threads pop up about the same thing... kind of annoying.

(And hey, if you need a new mod... I'd like to throw my hat into the ring... I've been a mod over at the Movie-List forums for awhile, so I know how to be good. )

I have. Have even seen screw-ups in HD where they have the noise at the top on the HD picture. That is a national screw-up. This was a major fiasco though from a Fox O&O station. Tie game of the ALCS and we get the Powerball numbers and picture in a box. There's no valid excuse for this sort of mistake.

It's just more evidence of just how screwed up Fox is as a whole. They just don't get it. Baseball fans can't stand watching their garbage broadcasts. The Pepsi fan cam, Scooter, WebMD crap, SD cams, and inept broadcasters that neither know what's going on nor what the players' names are just an embarassment to sports broadcasting. Pulling games on the final weekend from the locals, blacking them out, and then not showing was a major insult to fans this year. This drives away baseball fans and doesn't draw a single casual fan to their broadcasts. I really hope MLB smartens up and moves their coverage to a real network. Fox baseball coverage helps reinforce Fox's place as a third tier network and it kills baseball ratings.  :OnAir:

I can't even put this Fox6 call in the same line with the umpire call. With umpire call some people like it, some don't. With Fox6 lottery obsession nobody likes it. So we had weather obstructions before, now lottery obstruction, what will be next?
As for me I had at least the solution: switched to WFLD 32 from Chicago.
I find that having another HD market helps with HD programming: NBC5 from Chicago yesterday had the same audio problems as WTMJ, but they did not switch to SD. Also ABC from Chicago does not put BIG extra logo like WISN does, although the signal is yet lower then other Chicago signals.

Neither does Hearst-Argyle's own Boston Affiliate WCVB. Seems to be a local issue here with excessive logos and horrific logo placement by WISN and not a company policy.

The can flash the "FOX 6 WITI - Milwaukee" logo every hour during HD programming I've noticed.  So why not in plain white text show the winning numbers. (No need to have one-quarter of the screen show numbers HD or analog)

The once an hour required legal ID is hard coded into the splicer so it is always available. Other graphics are SD only.
