Is UPN24 broadcasting in HD?

We finally got round to watching Everyone hates Chris, and were disappointed to see it being displayed as 4:3 on 24-1.  The show had a " in HDTV" logo both on the Tivo guide and on the program itself.

If UPN broadcasting in HD?

If not, GET WITH THE PICTURE UPN!!

By the way, the show was great!

UPN50 from Chicago is in HD. Ch. 24-1 is still in SD.

Just completed most of the wiring for 24-1 HD but still waiting on equipment. It's scheduled for 4th quarter this year. Some stuff is here but the key components are missing (Switcher, Upconverter, Mpeg2 Encoder).  The Dolby 5.1 encoder looks real nice in the rack (powered off) and the Satellite receiver shows an excellent picture, just can't get it to the viewers....yet.

Okay, thanks for the feedback.

I guess I will transfer the season pass from the HD to SD Tivo.  No point wasting valuable bits to watch SD.

Jimboy what bit rate do you send out on 24-1?  Is it like 4mbs 480i (as you said you do not have an upconverted yet)?  The picture still looked good (better than the usual SD) so if it is not that high in bandwidth, I may still keep recording it on 24-1 rather than go back to 24.

The video bit rate is currently set for 15Mbps. That is the maximum for our SD encoders.

Wow!  15mbps SD!  That'll explain why the picture looked good....(for SD :D ).

Any plans to increase your signal strength or anything when you add the HD? Right now the only channels I have issues receiving are 24-1 and 10-1 to 10-7. Everything else gives me consistent 95-100 signal strength. :(

At 4Mbps blocking & tileing can still be seen with fast action video. Animated kids shows and Basketball are potential problems. HD or SD the effect is the same with too low of a bit rate for the material presented.

Yes, I am of the camp that more is always better (when it comes to bit rate at least).

I was kind of taking 4mbps as an average bit rate (so more could be used for action and so on - kind of like a DVD).  I also remember reading somewhere that some of the digital cable channels out there (on TW and DTV) are as low as 2-2.5 mbps which was always obvious when ever I came across them.  I don't think SD channels should be allowed to go below 4mbps but that is another thread!  Anyway good on you for passing a 15 mbps SD signal until the day you get your HD equipment in.

Does using a higher bitrate make your signal more susceptible to interference? I just can't figure out why I'm able to receive all the other stations in the same direction with 95-100 signal, but not 24, which hangs around 80 and constantly jumps around.

WPXE-DT   55.1   i   KENOSHA   WI      72°   9.4mi   40
WMVT-DT   36.1   PBS   MILWAUKEE   WI      72°   9.4mi   35
WVTV-DT   18.1   WB   MILWAUKEE   WI      72°   9.4mi   61

The above are received with no problems, yet I still can't receive:

WMVS-DT   10.1   PBS   MILWAUKEE   WI      72°   9.4mi   8
WCGV-DT   24.1   UPN   MILWAUKEE   WI      72°   9.4mi   25

The power increase will happen before July 1st 2006.  HD will happen when the equipment arrives. The two are not tied to each other in any way. One can happen without the other.

Video bitrate has nothing to do with how well you receive the signal.  We still send out the full 19.39 Mbps regardless how it gets filled.  Most cases when a received signal causes the meter to bounce it's a sign of multipath. In some cases depending on the tuner used higher power analog 24 will be a problem, which will be resolved once digital 24 (25) goes full power.

Gotta go....Season Premiere of Smallville is coming on soon!     :D

I know, I can't wait... at least I get perfect reception on 18-1. Lana in HD... hmm... :D

Too bad TWC doesn't carry it yet... I have to suffer with analog SD since I have class when Smallville is on.  Guess I'll have to schedule next semester with nothing on Thursdays so I can watch it in HD :D (assuming we don't have 518 at that time).

(Sorry for being so OT :D)
