Switching from CentryTel local telephone service $38/mo to Vonage unlimited local and long distance for $25/mo, next week; $$$ this seems like a no brainer.  I tested Vonage as a 2nd line, for 3 months, sound quality of telephone connection is poor while line is ringing, but when someone picks up the audio becomes excellent.   Anyone out there been a long time Vonage, Packet8 or AT&T (IP phone service) customer?   I'd like to hear your stories.

I had vonage and was very satisfied.  I had zero problems.  But cost was a bit of an issue.  Sure $25 is good, but I found out that for only $16.66/mo (all taxes included) Sunrocket offered two incomming phone numbers (both routed to the same line), unlimited long distance, $2 of international long distance per month, better international rates, etc.  However there are a few minor downfalls compared to vonage.  While you can get a local number in almost any area, they dont have a presence at every switch so you might not be able to move your existing phone number.  Also, you need to dial an area code even for local calls.

Those of you who cant do w/o 911 (VOIP does have 911 but it does not display your address on the dispatcher computer), I did get a TDS mailer offering unlimited long distance for at least 1 yr for only 19.99 (taxes not included).
