All of the above channels are unwatchable today. Pixelating like crazy.

On a related subject:

I seem to experience a lot of pixelation(if that means seeing a fuzzy picture with the dots very visible?) on my Directv HD broadcasts of Fox shows such as the "Inside" more than any other HD channel I get?

Any reason for this or is it Just a FOX thing?
.....sorry for the odd description....HDTV is very new to me.

Thanks,
Brandon

I've seen people say around this forum that Fox doesn't use that high of a bitrate, so that might be why.

I haven't had any TWC HD issues lately.

Boy, I'm with Joseph S here. I quite often get pixilation and distored audio on the HD Channels from TWC. Is this happening to a lot of people or are Joseph and I just lucky?

Seems to be during prime time a lot but I guess that's when I watch the most TV.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was getting it a lot last week with most of those channels.  The channels block up at random times, and the audio feed cuts out making my subwoofer pop most times.

Monday Night Football was pretty bad too from about 8-9pm last night.  However, something happened about 9pm as it was ok again after that, as well as ok from 7-8pm.  Didn't have a chance to patch in my antenna to see if that signal had the same issues or not.

So will it do any good to contact TWC about this? I'm assuming someone has and the answer was somewhat less than satisfying...?

Sounds like your issues should be dealt with via service call.

The problem is the service calls never seem to result in any change. They change the wires and say you have enough or too high signal and don't bring the correct replacement box to swap for testing and force you to go to the center and exchange on your own. You come back plug in the box and it may or may not be better, only because the whole neighborhood is or isn't watching. Not to mention the hassle of waiting for the cable guy.

I have to take  1/2 day off work tomorrow. They will be here "between 1:30 and 5:00".

I actually called them because my roadrunner connection is dropping packets (at least according to the pings I'm doing) so maybe I'll get lucky and the HD problems will go away when the fix whatever.

Although...if he's just going to switch out some wires...maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up

Same thing again tonight. InHD and InHD2 are crap and unwatchable. HBO/Sho mediocre. Rest are fine. Notice how it's always stuff that come together while others are A-OK.

I have had D hd for 6 months. Have never experienced anthing like what is described in this thread.  Have had satelite for 10 years, never have had to have a service call. Equipment has been flawless, from both E & D. Loose the signal, a total of 5 minutes per year. Just have to sweep the snow off the Dish or wait for the lightning to clear the area.  In addition, SBC/DSL, is as good or better then Road Runner & costs $29.95 per month. I think thats roughly $15.00 less per month.

I do not understand why so many of you continue to stick with TWC, and put up with their inept service and poor signals.

To each his own, I guess

To be fair, it looks like the HD reception part of this is going to be my issue. Too many splits dropping the signal strength too much.

I was coming in the house at about 7db but then split it in half to send a clear signal over to the cable modem. The other one went into a four way splitter to go to various TVs and that's where I dropped negative. According to the tech that would cause the dropouts I was seeing. Sounds reasonable. I purchased a signal amplifier at the Shack this morning for $30 and hooked it up before the first split.

That should do it. I'll let you know in a few days how it shakes out.

Oh, I should mention that the technician was out here for a cable modem call and I chased him down to the end of the driveway when I realized I didn't mention the TV. He suggested checking come cables and that's all he could think of...until he called me back on the phone about 10 minutes later and was thinking about my situation and  he remembered the splits he had seen and realized that would be the problem. That's pretty good service in my book.

Yup.  I have cable.  It's been out for maybe two hours since I moved here back in August of 1996 ... and mabye 30 minutes of that since I installed roadrunner when it became available.  I've gone through one DVR because of a hard drive issue.
Fact: 80-90% of service calls are repaired inside the home.
Most issues are caused by weekenders adding splitters and/or amps without having the tools to measure signal levels or prep fittings.  Messing with signals from a dish are somewhat more complex and not required unless you go out and spend a hundred bucks on a second receiver.  Therefore satellite is a little more intimidating to the masses when it comes to messing with the wiring (IMO).
