I rented a new release DVD today for my daughter and was shocked at the rental price, $4.51 with tax. Plus it only gets us 2 nights rental. Needless to say I will not be renting anything else at a  Blockbuster store. But I am a member of the Blockbuster internet rental service and it's a great deal ($9.99 per month with 3 movies out at a time, price locked in for 1 year, and 2 free movie or game rentals every month). The last time I was at a Blockbuster store was last Halloween when they moved the "classic" horror movies to the new release section and raised the price. That was it for me until today. I can't think of a company I hate more than Blockbuster, but I couldn't pass up the internet rental deal. Next time you go there don't forget your KY jelly, it'll go easier.

You get one week for movies in addition to the two day rental period.  After that, they charge you as if you were buying the movie.  If you return it before 30 days, they give your money back less a restocking fee (something like $1.25).  I only do the unlimited $14.99 for two at a time in store.  I tried Blockbuster online, but it took them a lot longer to get the movies to my house.  With Netflix it took no longer than a day or two, but with Blockbuster it took at least three days.  I'd rather have the movie right away though :D.

The grace period only applies to certain stores. It depends if it's a corporate owned store or a franchise store.  Most people don't know that.

Believe you me.  There is a lot they do not tell you unless you ask very specific questions.  I do not want to cause a mad rush.  But have you ever checked out your local Lybrary? ;)

Who still have their library card? I have not been there since high school. :)

I think Neflix is the best deal.   If you have their 3 out plan, you can get a new movie almost everyday. And if you mail back your movie on Friday or Saturday. You are almost guarantee to receive the newest releases on Tuesday. Now they have a process center here in Milwaukee.

Yes, I get free DVD's from 2 libraries near me. I watch a movie just about every night with my projector, 106 diagonal inches of pure bliss.

Didn't know that. Never rented from Netflix, but they were pretty good when I used to buy from them many moons ago. May just have to give them a try for titles I missed but wanted to see at the theaters as my DVD purchasing has really slowed down due to 1)lack of storage space left and 2)too many unviewed titles.

What's the exact turnaround in Milw then? Two days?

I selected Blockbuster 3 DVD's at a time deal. The reason was not a $3 Blockbuster advantage (14.95 instead of 17.95 from Netflix). Bloclbuster gives on top of that 2 free rental coupons for in store game or movie rentals, which I gladly use for my kids games rentals and it is $14 for month alone, almost covers $14.95 price tag.  :)
Maybe they can ship faster, and maybe Netflix is faster, but it is OK for me.

Well I guess I'll keep my card.  Rentals if you want to call it that are free.  You can check out 3 to 4 movies at a time and keep them for almost a week.  They may not be Johnny on the spot for getting new releases the day they come out, but they do have new releases none the less.  Of coarse their not open till midnight like BlockBuster either.  None the less it is a very cost effective alternative to paid movie rentals.  It's just a suggestion. :)

I had BB rental for a few months too. The 2 free movies coupons are nice. But, their turn around on the mail-in rentals are slow. They just don't have as large a selection as Netflix. Any new releases are immediately available from Netflix. It's great if you like old movies, foreign movies or TV series.
