Any ideas? TWC hasn't fixed my line interference problem in three months

Hi All,

First off, thanks for all of the great info that I've found on here. I was really surprised to find this local forum a few months ago when I went with an HD setup.

I've been having a hell of a time getting a major problem fixed by TWC, so I thought that I'd ask here and see if anyone might have any ideas on what the technical issue may be and if there is anything that I can do about it.

I'm in Racine. I have an SA8300 DVR with the s-video running to a normal CRT set and the component outs going to a 720p DLP projector. When watching anything from the cable box on the projector there is a horizontal band roughly half the height of the screen that rolls vertically upwards and then starts again at the bottom. The band has a slight purple cast to it and striated rough edges.

I initially assumed that it was my Monster Cable component cable, but it is the same with the TWC supplied cheap component cable. I then went through every possible connection and cable and finally isolated it to the cable coax itself. If I play something I've recorded back from the 8300 and unplug the coax from the box it immediately goes away and the picture is great. I've tried every outlet in the house and multiple cables and it is always the same. I have Road Runner, but it is the same going through the modem or directly to the wall. There is no interference on any of my SD sets, only on the HDTV projector. I've tried two other HD projectors with the same result. It's definitely in the line. I've tried putting those magnets on all of the coax and power cords just to give it a shot, but that didn't help.

I got my original setup early in March. I went through three boxes before calling TWC to look at the line. I initially called TWC on 3/18 and they sent someone out on 3/22. The tech was helpful like they usually are and said that it was definitely the "amplifier" outside and that the parts that they carry with them didn't fix it. He would have to have a tech from another group come out to replace it. He said that they would come out in the next few days. A week later I hadn't heard anything so I called. They had no record of it, so they set up a ticket with the right group. Another week and I called back. The ticket went up to Port Washington, so they set up a new appointment.

Another normal tech came out and came to the same conclusion. Again, he said that the advanced guys would come out in the next few days. Another week goes by and I call again. They said that the ticket was still open and the CSR was very apologetic and helpful. He opened a new ticket and gave me the case number. He emailed it directly to the head of the correct department and promised me that either him or the manager of that department would call me within three days. That was 4/26, three weeks ago and I haven't heard anything. The interference is still there and seems to be getting worse.

If it wasn't for my reliance on Road Runner I'd be looking at my other options a lot more seriously. But this is simply insane. I've had this HD setup for three months now and I simply can't use it without this damned interference driving me up the wall. I'm going to call AGAIN tomorrow, but I thought that I'd try here to see if anyone has any ideas. Maybe if someone here has an idea of what to look at I can point them in the right direction.

I'd appreciate any help that anyone might have.

Thanks,

Without actually seeing it myself its hard to say what the true cause is, but
sounds like an AC hum bar usually caused by a ground loop or bad amplifier.
Again just a guess at this point without being able to trouble shoot it.

My suggestion would be keep TWC for your internet and dump the rest for
now and go satellite till its fixed or at least call TWC and tell them your
going to do this and see if it speeds up your process a little bit.

 :D Good luck
