I wish that TWC offered an option like they do for the premium channels or HD package that they did offer the Sinclair stations because it would be an OPTION.

No one MAKES you watch Showtime, or other channel(s)  that might offend your
delicate sensibilities, folks.

Our country is based on freedom of expression and the right to choose.
That includes the right to make choices on what you pay for and what you want to see,  without limiting others from doing the same.

It has absolutely nothing to do with political leanings, ever.

Enough, already.

Funny that Showtime airs Penn & Teller: Bulls***!, then. They're extremely libertarian in their opinions (like myself), and have made their position known on several occasions. That's extremely right-wing for the likes of the terribly liberal Showtime, no? Also, HUFF is really a great show. I'm keeping Showtime because those two shows are very worth it, and because they tend to play more daring, offbeat and indie movies (same company as the Sundance channel).

If I was cancelling channels because their political agendas offended me, Fox "News" would've been gone awhile ago... but hey... O'Reilly gives me a chuckle once in awhile.  ;)

.....
They have the gay show "Queer As Folks" Men holding hands and kissing, puke.

They added the "L Word" All about lesbians (could be hot, but is not). Just very political.

"Fat Actress" with Kristi Alley just totally degrades heavy people and herself.

I think it's you who's lost touch. I know a lot of people who enjoy Queer As Folk and The L Word. I've watched them, granted the writing is a bit weak, and I'd never be a regular viewer, but they have a VERY niche audience for all their shows. The L Word wouldn't be on the air if Queer As Folk wasn't as successful as it is.

You talk about how Queer As Folk makes you puke and then how the lesbian show could be hot. So you cancel that for Cinemax aka. softcore porn at night. Conservative values! Whoo!

Sorry, don't mean to start a poltical debate (well, I guess you did that, so I spose it's ok), I just find this endlessly humorous.

I think some of you guys are missing the point. I did not mean for people to get upset here and I'm afraid some of you are getting a little emotional about this post. I hope we are all still friends. You say if you don't like it, don't watch it. That is EXACTLE what I said I am planning to do.

I never said EVERYTHING on Showtime was bad, nor did I say other networks are perfect. There were programs on Showtime that I enjoyed very much. In the end you have to decide what is the right thing to do for yourself and sometimes that means making tough decisions. For me, Showtime is out.

I'm not sure who brought soft porn into the discussion. I never said that soft port offended me. I said I disagree with Showtime's political agenda and do not plan to financially support their network. Free country, free choices.

Running Fahrenheit 9/11 was the final straw for me. They have the free choice to play what they want, you have the free choice to watch what you want and I have the free choice to turn off what I want.

Everyone have a nice day. {cheers}

Quote from: picopir8Thats why Im happy TWC does not pay for Synclair stations.  As a REAL conservative (ie Libertarian), I dont want my money going to those who talk like conservatives but then spend like liberals (ie Republicans).

Hey! I'm a Constitutionalist! We should join ranks ;)

I think it's just the fact that you felt the need to announce it here. I really don't see what the point of it was?

I guess in retrospect, it was a mistake.

My other love besides HD is waterskiing. I visit a couple of boating boards regularly and we talk about politics all the time.

I love to debate politics, but I don't like it when it gets ugly.  My only point of posting on this board was the factor of loosing an HD channel.

My apologies to anyone that was offended and lets all have a good week.

Glad to hear you are dropping what you don't like instead of being like most conservatives and trying to make a constitutional ban on it!

I don't like most of the shows this thread started out about, but I continue to pay for SHO because it shows a variety and includes so much more than the "family freindly" HBO.  I like my sci-fi and SHO carries the most of it.  Especially the extra SHO channels.  I also love Bullsh!t.  Fantastic show.   :D  Maybe they should do a episode on family values and TV.  Oh, that's right they already did!

I guess my point is if you didn't want a poltical debate, you don't bring it up. Your main reason for cancelling Showtime was its supposed bias, which I was quick to point out isn't so true. I'm fine with debating this stuff, but then you come along and say well I'll watch what I want and I cancelled it so there (essentially)... which is also fine... but if you didn't wanna discuss your points, don't bring them up.

No hurt feelings here, just wanted to clarify.  :)

Actually, I WAS hoping for a political debate as I mentioned we do on our waterskiing boards all the time. The difference was, I was pointing out the politics I did not like about Showtime, and some people here attacked me personally. I never attacked any people on this board, just a company. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and that is what I was hoping to discuss, but when it gets personal, it has gone off track. That was not the point.:D

Guys we've been here before and before it gets out of hand, we're not going down that path.  Note this past post http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/forums/showthread.php?p=14231#post14231

So subject is closed, keep the topic on track.....and leave your biases on your computer and not on this posting board.

Sorry about that Gregg, my fault, I did not realize there was a policy against posting politics. I hope you accept my apology.

Quote from: summerfunI hate to loose one of my HD channels, but I have had enough. I have to cancel my Showtime channel. Vote with your dollars they always say.

Showtime has completely lost touch  IMO.

And now they are playing Fahrenheit 9/11. The propaganda film made last year to bash President Bush. Proven not to have a shred of truth and shunned even by Democrats as completely false but hailed by the most liberal of the left wing.

I believe Mr. Moore's movie, though slanted, has been mostly proven correct. The lies and cover-ups are now  costing thousands of young lives, and $200 billion and growing. The Iraq quagmire is growing into a civil war, and looking more like another Vietnam. Here's a picture of our President holding hands with the Saudi prince from last week. Gas prices have gone from $32 to $55 a barrel since 2001. Go figure.
