Time Warner is not broadcasting all local channels in HDTV.  Anyone know what gives?

Gregg Lengling

At the present time they only have agreements with the following channels to rebroadcast their digital channels (whether HD or multicast).

WTMJ 4 (28)
WITI 6 (33)
WMVS 10 (8)
WISN 12 (34)
WMVT 36 (35)
WDJT 58 (46)

There is no agreement with either 18 or 24 at this time.

Interesting FYI...

TWC in Green Bay and our local FOX affiliate (owned by Emmis Communications) are having a disagreement on compensation; therefore, no FOX on TWC in northeast Wisconsin.

I'm pretty sure that all stations owned by Emmis are in the same situation.  Fox in Ft Myers, FL is also owned by Emmis & they are not not cable there either.  Emmis feels that they should get carriage $$ for their OTA digital signal, cable cos only want to pay for signals that are not available OTA.  Meanwhile, the public is the one that loses out.

Bullermann and Sparkman87 - Sinclair fights with all the cable companies, Comcast is working on carriage now for SBG to get paid so maybe TWC will try same as for now, no 18 and 24 in HD, only analogue channels. :(

I personally dont see why Synclair is fighting.  After all, a number of shows (smallville, charmed, etc.) show up a few days later on other HD channels (inHD or TNT).  I rarely watch anything on 18/24 so I dont know exactly how many of the programs are rebroadcast but it seems like most of the more polular shows are rebroadcast.  So I guess I dont see what Synclair is using for leverage.

Looks as though you're half right as "Charmed", though not HD runs the same show on TNT-HD later on in the week that WB has on Sundays...as for the other ones - Smallville is in HD on HDNET but not the same week's shows as on the WB.
Maybe there are some I don't watch you do and these are repeated in HD elsewhere...let me know...love never having to watch Sinclair stations! :D

As for SBG wanting payment, cable companies, too, have upfront costs to distribute the HD signals so I don't see what all the fuss is about...its not like our cable bills are so low to begin with.
If Sinclair wants to alienate its HD cable subscribers, that is THEIR loss, too!

When I emailed Time Warner here is what they sent back in reply:

Thank you for your email to Time Warner Cable! I am more than happy to assist you with your emailed questions and concerns. The programming you have requested is not yet available in Southeastern Wisconsin. We will gladly broadcast this feed from channels 18 and 24 once they make it availible to Time Warner Cable. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your suggestion for channel lineup change to our Marketing Department. Thank you for your suggestion as we continue to provide the best in home entertainment.

First of all I don't believe that TW does a good job in providing 'the best' in home entertainment - they are limited in scope of offerings and expensive by comparison to their competition.  I compare to Charter that my son has in another nearby area in SE Wisconsin.

This is another 'airline' industry.  (Airline Industry = can't find their bottom side with either hand and the last thing they care about is you the customer, altho they love your money).

Thanks for all of the replys and information.

The bottom line is that I have a HD television and I'd like to have available as many HD channels as their are.

Bullermann:
So why don't you try getting Voom, assuming they last past April and combo it with TWC or whatever is available to you (maybe OTA) ...that would certainly "maximize" your HD channel offerings! :D
Time Warner Cable certainly cannot tell you everything about Sinclair and them, probably for legal reasons, just like Comcast does with their dealings with Sinclair recently. I don't see why you just don't try doing a dish system instead if possible and get HD OTA for 18 and 24 HD offerings, what they have of them.
