So I have picked up the new SA8300 and it was suggested that I move to go HDMI instead of Component.  I have a new Samsung that has a HDMI plug and a DVI plug.  In doing some research I have noticed HDMI to HDMI and HDMI to DVI.
are available Which one do I go with?  Does anyone have suggestions on the brand (Monster etc)

It shouldn't really matter whether you use the DVI or HDMI.  The quality should be about the same.

And don't buy Monster unless you really feel like flushing money down the toilet.  There is no reason to be spending over $100 for a cable like these.  Check ebay, cablesforless.com, bluejeancable.com, etc.

HDMI to HDMI allows video and audio, HDMI to DVI only allows video to be passed so you will need to run additional cables for audio.

The issue I am having currently using HDMI to HDMI is the SA8300 sets itself to 2.0 instead of 5.1 because the TV is not 5.1 capable, so then my surround reciever is in ProLogic mode instead of DD 5.1 surround.  There is a fix coming for this where you can force dd 5.1 (see the Official SA 8330 link under the DVR forum...)

I got an HDMI to HDMI cable for $25 on-line, the similar Monster cable was $150 at BB.

HDMI virtually is DVI + audio in one cable.

My LG STB came with a DVI cable.  Kinda nice of them.  I did have to buy an adapter to convert it to the HDMI input on my TV.  Honestly my 48-year-old eyes can't tell if the picture quality improved from component.  Speaking of cables I have a good size order in to //www.cablewholesale.com.  Great selection.  They brag of similar specs as M* but prices are much less.  That isn't saying much though considering M's "monstrous" prices.

FiberOptic, did you order  the cable today, or recieve it today?

Does the cable seem to be good quality???

I got an HDMI cable from Ebay as well.  STSI was the seller.  Very nice cable for a very nice price.
