I'm new with TWC.  Just got it installed yesterday.  I've been a DirecTV guy for the past seven years.  I am wondering if anyone knows if you can custom the guide on the TWC boxes like you can on the DirecTV boxes?  Just viewing the channels you receive in the guide instead of all channels?  "Auto Scan"?

Thanks!

Just started playing with the different boxes at work from TWC, let me know what you find as they'll be installing the whole shebang here on the 28th....HDTV/RoadRunner/Digital Phone.......

This will be a big change also as I've been with Directv for over 10 years.

Make sure you requested the 8300 hd-dvr.  My installer didn't know anything about them.  He had never seen one until yesterday.  I hate to say it but it might even be better than Tivo?!...  I haven't called DTV to cancel yet, but after my first day / night of use I am impressed!  (never thought I would say that about TWC)..

I would recomend letting them install all new cables.  When we first tried TWC  about a month ago it wasn't all that hot using my Sat cables. (that have never given me a problem with my sat sig).  When we ran new cable to all the sets it was night an day different.  No charge for the cables and the install so why not have all new laid in?..

Hope you have the same luck I have had so far!

I have the 8000HD model and have not picked up the 8300HD, but never had used this function.
If you go into the settings menu, if I remember correctly, the are favourite channels and ones you can block from younger children in addition to the power-on channel and aspect ratio, etc.

Good luck with your installs, Gregg...mine were excellent! ;)

They are not installing just running cable to garage and placing a splitter and the Phone Modem (I am installing the TV's and RR), because I have a 150 year old stone house I'm not letting a hack run cable.  I've got a roll of 500' of quad sheild RG6 and have all the tools to do it properly and the house will be all cabled before they come.

Good plan on running your own cabel.  I lucked out.  I have drop-tile downstairs.  Good guy that had a clue from TWC too.  Let me do all of the hook ups.  I'm not one to let others play with my toys.  The last guys I tried with TWC told me to hook up my 65" HD set via S-video because it would give me the best picture.   Not sure where they heard that??  This guy that came to the house yesterday was a good guy and knew what he was talking about.  Yea, for TWC on this guy.  They need more guys like this!

I had the joy of watching Blind Justice over the lunch hour in HD from the DVR lastnight.  Makes me think I made that right choice to change!  I was always happy with DTV.  But with a three year old in the house I has never able to watch any of my shows in HD.  Kinda made me think why have a nice TV if you are watching HD programming in standard def?

Again,  I hope you are as please as I am.

I had a TWC guy come out and tell me the same thing. In fact, he first brought me the regular DVR instead of the HD-DVR and argued with me for 15 minutes before calling someone to bring over the right box.  Plus, this guy was from somewhere in Africa and we both had a hard time understanding each other.

RG6's center conducter is too big and will screw up the fittings on the gear.  Use an F-barrel and drop down to RG59 before you get to any RF inputs.

I don't understand that as all our boxes at work are connected from the main splitter from TWC with RG6!

I think it would only be an issue if you ever tried to use RG59 in the future after using RG6.

I don't understand it either.  Standard wiring is RG6 for the drop and 59 from there.  I would never plug RG6 into any of my electonics... most F fittings are soldered to the circuit boards and would require major service to replace the fitting.
The differrence in loss @750MHz over a 100' span is less than 1.5dB (RG6 = 5.6 / RG59 = 6.96).  IMO, hardly worth the risk --- especially considering all of the carriers on the high end are digital.

RG59 is standard in the house for TWC?   You may want to double check that.
