I'm curious! Does anyone know if there is any timeline for local news to go HD?
Thanks,

Im not sure but I would suspect that there is probably a lot more involved than just getting new equipment.  With the wide format, do you show both anchors on the screen at the same time?  do you split screen and show a graphic on one side?  Does the new aspect ratio require the set to be redesigned.  Do they need to hire better looking anchors since blemishes will be more visible in HD?  Do you forgo HD and just multicast the news and tailor the broadcast to different demographics?

I think there are a lot of changes that could take place rather and a lot of new possibilites.  While most will probably start off doing the same old same old, some will innovate and others will pick up on the things that work.

I probably should not mention it, but Im rather suprised most stations are simply broadcasting bars on upconverted SD.  I expected more of some sort of framing graphic with the stations logo sorta like what ESPN does.  Or even subtile, non intrusive sidebar advertisements.  And for the news, run weather, sports, etc. tickers in the sidebar space.
