Will a $25. signal strength meter sold for dish pointing also work for HDTV?  I mean could I use it on the roof when aiming my antenna towards Milwaukee or Green Bay to attempt to find the strongest signals?  I envision being able to walk from one end of the house to the other changing altitude as well.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Hmmm.. no bites here!  Likely due to low/no basic info...
In short, it depends on the capability of the meter.  L-band (950-1450MHz) signal level meters may or may not be able to tune analog & digital levels in the VHF/UHF bands.  Based on the price, I'd say "no".

Unfortunatly this won't work - differnt frequencies. This is a real good question though - I am using a old Sencore FS-134 - which has been a education in terms of some of my assumptions about my FM antenna ( it's being taken out of service this weekend in favor of just splitting off from my TV dipole) .
This is not probably of any real use ? in terms of judging DTV signal strength. I do get a hiss ( carrier?)at the DTV frequencies and can measure this and the measurments do not seem unreasonable - but truthfully I am far from sure if this is actually getting me any real data?
Any broadcast engineers out there who could enlighten us?
Am working on a Kluge to see if I can feed this DTV RF into a osciloscope thru a network and get anything useful out - will let ya'll know if this works?
