Got price on JVC HD-Z585 from TV Authority for $3395.00 inc. Shipping. Any better prices out there from reputabale dealers ?

gparris

Does that include shipping and is the reputation of them a good one?

Colder's sells JVC, too, I remember correctly, can that price be matched so you don't have a return problem if something goes wrong, locally?

I worry about buying HDTV sets from out of state retailers I cannot drive to and see the product, work with the store,  ect...maybe its just me. :D

TVA is a good outfit, I've dealt with them before.  If that includes their 5-star guarantee (no restocking fee, 30 day no questions asked return policy) it sounds like a decent deal.  The folks over on AVSForum were doing a group buy with TVA on some of the JVC sets, so you might want to check that pricing (if that's not where you got this quote).  Some of the local B&M stores (Sears in particular still did a couple of months ago) will do internet price matching.

Thanks for the info.  Sears doesn't carry this model. I'll look into that group Purchase.

Thanks, Mark

I recently returned a Toshiba 52HM84 back to work because I was one of the people affected by rainbows, anytime i blinked or moved my head to fast! So, I went ahead and gave the JVC HD-52Z575 a shot, it having a silver base being the difference to the one you're looking at.

At first, I was unhappy with the picture because it was just too bright. I threw in my DVE disc, and calibrated it until I thought it was good. I am so very happy with the picture quality of this set, and would highly recommend it!

Caution: Make sure you get a serial number with either a 179, or a brand new January build with 062 as the first three. And you may not like how bright the unit us but that will go down a bit after your first week of ownership as the bulb seems to settle down a little. This all goes for the 61" that you're looking at too btw.

Took a friend of mine shopping since I was supposedly knowlegeable about HDTV  recently.
I was all ready to have him to buy the JVC 52" at Colder's for $2599 but then we just "had" to visit the Tweeter store in Illinois on the way back because he had a friend that worked there and told him that the JVC sets are all junk and that is why they don't sell them.
Even though the picture looked brighter, more colourful and clearer than the Mits DLP standing right next to it in a another competing store(yeah, we had to go to several stores-shopping), he wanted ignore my claims that JVC makes a good product and he originally WAS sold on that model.

So I ask anyone in the forum...are the JVC sets any good (or better) if you have one...or sell them and DO you have problems with yours or what your customers buy?
Note: He doesn't buy into extended warranties, (ever) and since this is a newer technology than say, CRT, he could be asking for trouble on any fixed-pixel display, especially D-ILA which is LCoS based?
I really liked the JVC myself and would have bought one in the 70" if they were available instead of my Hitachi.

I was REALLY close to buying one of these sets.  The 61Z585 actually... If you do decide to get this set and want to buy it locally, check with American.  They can usually give you a reasonable price.

The thing that scared me away from it in the end was that some people with these were having problems with chromatic abberation.  I noticed this myself on some of the sets - made the picture look "blurry".  I know that this has been corrected to some extent on later construction of these models, but it is usually still there to a small extent.

I also just happened to fall in love with the Sony 60XS955 at the same time.  Couple that with the fact that the Sony had a built-in tuner and other features the JVC lacked at a slightly lower price, and I was sold!

But, all-in-all, the JVC's have a lot of potential, and I expect them to get even better with the newer models coming out.

gparris - I would strongly recommend your friend pick up an extended warranty on almost any HDTV.  At least for me, the peace of mind is worthwhile on such an investment.  And with these digital technologies, with bad pixels, premature lamp burnout, etc., there seems to be even more reasons for it.

Thank your for your helpful response.
I try to have people use our forum as a helpful website, but they always seem to come to me, especially if they are friends or associates.
Additionally, I refer them to places I know forum members may work if related to HDTV or Home Theatre setups, if possible.

As for the 60" Sony, the LCD RPTVs have these speaker "wings" on the sides and that does not always lead to a possible "fit" in some instances for replacing or buying new sets for a given area. Hitachi, too, has these speaker wings.
I have an Sony 60" WF model  ( see signature) with stand and love it! :)
