Adoption of 24P On the Rise Worldwide among Production / Post Facilities
-- By 2004 more than six in ten facilities across the board will be shooting and/or mastering in 24P --
According to SCRI's just released Production/Post H/DTV Migration Report, by the end of 2000 three out of every ten facilities will be shooting and/or mastering in 24P -- within two years, more than six in ten facilities will be doing so.

Among film production/post facilities, more than half are already shooting and/or mastering in 24P and by 2004, over eight in ten will be doing so. About three in ten video post facilities are already shooting and/or mastering in 24P and by 2004 over seven in ten will be doing so. The numbers among video production facilities, one in ten are already shooting in 24P and within two years this will jump to more than six in ten facilities.

The USA appears to be currently lagging behind Europe, Asia, and other rest of world regions in terms of 24P HD adoption with 21% of US facilities already using 24P, while in Europe, Asia and ROW, 32% of facilities are already using. That will change over the next two years -- by 2004 63% of US facilities across the board will have adopted 24P, compared to 59% of those in Europe, Asia and other regions.

24 fps progressive mastering format in 1080x1920 was originally proposed back in 1998 to simplify the process of converting to the various video standards for the networks and broadcasters worldwide In the same way that 601 digital swept the post world, it appears that 24p HD is poised to become the next industry standard - especially for universal mastering and distribution.
