If you can, just delete 12-1 like I did when they inserted their logo.  I live in Racine...my antenna is pointed south for all ABC, PBS and FOX programming.   The great news is that ABC 7 and PBS 11 from Chicago don't have logos which are horribly distracting and unecessary.  I've never seen a switching failure on ABC 7.  My signal strength meter reads 100% for ABC and FOX so perhaps those of you on the southside of Milwaukee (just 11 miles north of me) can point your antennas south and be done with the problems presented by the ABC, PBS and FOX affiliates in Milwaukee.

John, what antenna are you using. I want to try it here in Muskego.

I bought it at Radio Shack many years ago.  I think it's called a YAGI - not sure.  It has very small elements on a boom that's about 3' long with a V shaped small group of elements at the back.  The V is pointing forward.  Sorry I can't be more specific than that.  Other guys on this forum know way more than I do about antennas.  About 3 years ago, I added an amplifier - also bought at RS for not a lot of money.  There's a small box in the house that the coax plugs into, then into my set top box.  It also has a small AC power unit.  And, there is a "gain control" as well.  The length of my coax run is about 60'.  Anyway, it performs very well as I do receive all channels from Chicago, except for Channel 2 which I hear not many people get unless you live near the Loop.  FOX 32 never registers below 100 on my signal strength meter...the signal even comes in off the side and the back of the antenna.  For the other Chicago stations, they come in just fine but I do have to fine tune the direction the antenna is pointing for PBS 11-1 sometimes.  For the other stations, I just have to come close and point a little bit east of south.  I carefully measured on an aviation map and find that my antenna is 53 miles from the Sears tower where I believe most of the transmitters are located.  I hope this helps you as it's so nice to be rid of those awful logos that some Milwaukee channels feel they must keep on the screen.  I simply can't tolerate having my HD picture cluttered with that junk.

I'm sorry to get off topic here...just wanted to answer your question.  Good luck and I hope you can start watching Chicago TV soon.

Since they still have learned the schedule. Here's a tip:

Quit with the excuses. Fire the damn worthless GM!! This is beyond belief how they can screw up the #1 show week after week after week after month after month.

My god... 2 minutes into Desperate Housewives before it gets switched to HD... AGAIN. Someone certainly needs to get fired.

To add to the switching problems.
ABC HD PQ is very good. But I find it that WISN SD PQ is not even close to WTMJ. That is why I actually quit watching WISN news and watch mostly WTMJ news. WISN SD is at the last place among local chanells PQ.

John, Thanks for yopur antenna comments. I will try later to get Chicago stations. I am 70.2 miles from Sears tower. Sometimes I can get WGN. I think I wait until all station go 100% power this summer. At that moment it should not be a problem.

I completely agree, their digital SD signal is terrible, but HD looks great.  You can tell there's a problem just in comparison to 18 and 24, both look tons better.

Why is this?

I would guess they aren't up-converting, they are just taking the NTSC signal and encoding it for ATSC transmission.  They probably don't have an up-converter in the stream.

Just a guess.....

Another night, same story. One major flipping glitch accompanied by the usual late local breaks and the continued annoyance of switching from HD music to the delayed SD music hiccup effect into commercial breaks throughout the night's shows.

Joseph S

I'll update the main thread later, but they just f'd up Lost again.

jrlenz

Tonight's "Lost" is not being presented in HD.  per ABC, New York.

Joseph S

Sorry, but the fact that it wasn't in HD doesn't mean they didn't f' it up.

They failed to show the ATSC program and as such we received 4:3 quality on par with the religious station overlayed with snow combined with green/grey sidebars, white noise at the top, and inferior audio.

As usual, they falied to flip the switch and left us with an inferior broadcast to the other ABC affiliates.

Absolutely abysmal job.

Joseph S

How can any station be this incompetent?

What's the plan tonight?

Flip the switch after the Movie?

The schedule is at http://www.abc.com

ABC is sending Harry Potter at 7PM-11PM EST in SD & HD
However if your local affiliate is running the 1hr delay from 8PM-12PM EST then there is NO HD for this time. Maybe that is your local issues.

In Dallas we are able to delay the HD with DD audio so we have SD & HD on the air with the delay.
