Where is the best sledding hill in the metro Milwaukee area?

StarvingForHDTV

I ordered this:

From Walmart.com  It should arrive this week, and I would like to try it out.

I know of one hill in Mequon, one in Cedarburg, and one on the East side of Milwaukee.  I'm sure there are many more out there that I don't know about.

Starving,

Is that a picture of you on the sled?

No, that's not me on the sled.  The picture came from the sled maker's website.

I was looking for the same info.  I found some sledding hills here:

Milwaukee County Parks

Waukesha County Parks

This might help too:

Some of the Milwaukee parks have lighted hills, great for evening sledding.

I have not tried out any of the hills yet, so I don't know what is the best.  Hopefully I can go before all the snow goes away.

I know Mee-Kwon park's sledding hill was made safer this past year.  The tradeoff is that it is not as much fun as it used to be.

I have never seen the Hawthorne Hills sledding hill.

I sled Lowell hill in Waukesha, behind Lowell elementary.  There are 3 sledding areas... the main hill that has a gradual slope and lots of people, the ski hill that has a sharp slope and is used by the North ski team (fun!), and the tobbogan (sp?) run which is an iced up wooden sled run for tobbogans.   The ski hill is the best of the 3... just make sure you stay clear of the trees down the sides.

Free parking in the school lot below.

Hawthorne Hills on County I north of Saukville is decent. Crowded alot of the time but for a reason. You have to time your decent so as not to go bowling for kinder.

I will give Hawthorne Hills a try soon, thanks for the tip.

Today I sledded at St. Mary's Hill on the East side of Milwaukee.  It's basically at the furthest point East on North Ave.  This is a fast hill, like I remember it from when I was younger.  The ride doesn't last long, but it is thrilling.  The walk back up is good exercise.

I also sledded at Mee-Kwon park in Mequon.  This is a much longer ride than St. Mary's, but the slope is no longer steep enough to provide thrills.  At least for someone my age.

The third hill I hit was in Cedarburg on Spring Street where I used to watch the fireworks when I lived there.  This hill is steeper than Mee-Kwon, but much too short.  Good for the young kids I would think.

The sled is awesome.  The ribbed bottom material allows it to go straight, even if you pick a sideways route down the hill.  The steering and brakes didn't do much.  If they worked at all, they were very subtle.  It provides a comfortable ride, and I highly recommend it to other adults.  It is by far the best sled I have ever used.

Wish I had known. Next time you're there wave up at the old St. Mary's hospital, 4th floor.

You can pick up that sled on Walmart.com for a reasonable price.  Maybe you could try it out on one of your breaks or before/after work.  If I lived closer to that hill I would sled there regularly.

I tried the Hawthorne Hills sledding hill today.  I feel that is the best hill I have used so far.  It's about as thrilling as St. Mary's Hill in Milwaukee.  I think it might even be a longer ride too.  A nice rope system to help get back up the hill.  After that warm weather and then the deep freeze, there is some ice below the snow, and the rope system is helpful.  No parking tickets either.  I got nailed by the Milwaukee Police aka the mob when I was at St. Mary's the other day.  Milwaukee has quite a racket going on with their various sources of income.....

I drove around Brown Deer park looking for the sledding hill discussed on the Milwaukee County Parks website, but I couldn't find it.  Does anyone know if that really exists?

I plan to try Homestead Hollow Park near Germantown soon:

I might give Menomonee Park in Waukesha County a try too:

Still loving the sled.

Has anyone ever tried waxing or using anything to make their sled even faster?  I thought about maybe trying cross country ski wax.  If anyone has experience in this area, I would appreciate a tip.
