Part 1 was that the Tivo didn't output DVI or HDMI Video.  D* replaced the box, and then it worked, but with HDMI, on powering on, the picture was overlaid with an overall pink tint.  Changing resolution (from/to anything) fixed it.  Advice from the AVSforum was to use DVI at the Sharp Aquos input, and that worked -- namely, a cable with HDMI at the Tivo end and DVI at the Sharp end.  Still, for $1000, I'd prefer it to work 100%.

So, a call to "level two", or whatever they call it, at D* produced the answer that it is a known problem, and will be fixed in a firmware upgrade.  Now, that's the first time D* acknowledged the problem (and described the fix), so I'm still a little skeptical, but we shall see.  Of course, no date exists for the fixing firmware upgrade, so stay tuned.  (The front-end "level one" person I talked to knew nothing about the problem, of course, but one kind of expects that.)
