HELLO

JUST GOT MY EBAY PURCHASE OF A HUGHES E86 TODAY.  LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BARELY USED, EVEN THE MANUAL WAS STILL WRAPPED ALONG WITH FRESH BATTERIES FOR THE REMOTE.

MY QUESTION NOW IS:  IS THERE A WAY TO USE THE OFF AIR RECEIVER ONLY.  I DON'T WANT TO SIGN UP FOR D* UNTIL WE MOVE TO THE NEW HOUSE(PROBABLY SUMMERTIME).  AS IT IS USED NO ACCESS CARD WAS SENT, AND I DON'T HAVE A DISH UP, AS I HAVE CHARTER NOW, AND GET MY OFF AIR STUFF THROUGH MT SAMMY 151?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I have the same question, except in my case, I want to use an OLD Hughes model HIRD-C2 as an off air tuner?  Is it possible to modify it?

I FIGURED OUT AN ANSWER TO MY OWN QUESTION.  I READ THE MANUAL.  I USUALLY AVOID READING WHEN I CAN, BUT I WANTED TO SEE HOW THE OFF AIR TUNER WORKED.  I FOUND OUT IN THE DISH SETUP MENU, WHEN IT ASKS YOU FOR WHAT TYPE OF DISH, YOU HAVE TO SELECT "NONE".  THEN GO THROUGH THE INSTALL PROCEEDURE OF SEARCHING FOR CHANNELS OFF THE ANTENNA.

GOOD LUCK!
