Just curious what people are using for antennas to receive HD material for the eastern Waukesha area and what channels they get.
Do you have to use a roof-mount antenna, attic antenna or a STB antennas?  I have a 2-story home.
I am currently a HD TWC customer and just checking out other options.
I checked antennaweb already but just want to know from personal experiences.
I live in the Buchner Park area.

Drummerboy,

I live on the SW side of Waukesha (oakdale/59) by the Pink house on the hill.  I am actually on the backside of the hill and I pull in all of the local OTA HD channels (CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC, PBS 36 & 10 as well as a couple other digital stations) with an attic mounted antenna.

All of the signals are between 80-100% except CBS is at about 50% and FOX jumps anywhere from 0% - 60% but I haven't really tried adjusting it to receive FOX yet.   Fox is really the only one I can't watch due to breakups.

Fox does seem to come in better during the day than at night???
not sure why.

I'm in the same boat now...just bought a RCA DTC-100 in hopes of dropping my TWC service to just Roadrunner.  I'm also in Waukesha (near the courthouse, on Pewaukee Rd/Hwy J).  Anyone else in the Waukesha area have anything to add (as this thread is a few months old already).

I'm at 164/59 and Broadway roughly and use a Channelmaster 4228.  Generally it works good enough to receive Madison stations when rotated that direction.

I'm using 3 different tuners-- one in each TV, and the other is a ATI HDTV Wonder tuner card for my PC.  Keep in mind that the 4228 is a UHF only, so once stations revert back to their VHF assigned frequencies, I'll need to change that accordingly.  The 4228 has a small footprint though, so for now, I consider it ideal.

Hope this helps,

Greg O.

When will the stations have to go to VHF assigned frequencies? I guess I should consider myself lucky I'm pulling in all stations, fox being my weakest but watchable.

Stations don't have to go back to their VHF frequencies.

The first deadline for stations to pick their final "post transition" channel is Jan. 27th, 2005.

Stations that now have two in-core channels (2-51) will pick which one will be their permanent DTV channel and stations with one in-core and one out of core channel will decide whether to use their in-core channel as a their permanent DTV channel.

In July 2005 a second round will allow stations without a current in-core channel to pick a channel from those made available after the first round.

Round three will take place in January 2006 when stations not yet assigned a channel will get to pick from those channels still available after round two.

Interesting, thanks Oflaherty. Do you think they will all stay UHF?
If so maybe I should go out and get a CM4228 antenna.

If it's any help, the CM4228 does a great job with digital Channel 8 (10-1) for me.  Previously I had also used it to view analog 4 and 6 too.  It wasn't as sharp as a true VHF antenna for 4 and 6, but it seemed to do the job.  There was some noise, but it's hard to say whether that would eliminate the possibility of locking on a digital channel in that range.  It is a bit of a gamble, but I think that antenna will work fine for VHF digital channels in the future.  However, it's not a certainty.

Good luck.

DaMan – It's too early to know for sure, but my personal guess is that a couple of local stations will be on VHF when the transition is done.

The FCC should release a tentative list after the first round deadline at the end of January.

I expect 4, 6, and 12 to move their DTV to where their analog is now.  VHF has proven to be better than UHF.  Less transmission power, more coverage.  Therefore the cost of operating a VHF transmitter is a lot less costly than UHF. I don't know if WMVS intends to stay with ch. 8 or move back to 10.  The new FCC plan could change how many VHF and UHF channels are assigned.  If an additional VHF channel for commercial use is assigned, perhaps WDJT could get it, or 2 of the Sinclair stations maybe.
