I have read a lot of negative posts & consumer reviews about their service. Are they really that bad?

I am thinking of going to voom but I also would like to know why there are so many bad reports on voom.
I have TWC and am having a lot of problems with customer service, so don't DTV and the Dish network have any problems.

I can't speak for their HD programing, as I am having it installed on Saturday...( just in time for the Packer game). However, I have been a customer for 3+ years and am extremely pleased. The minor inconvienance of losing a signal, on occasion, far outweighs the extreme inequites of Cable. I would highly recommend Direct TV. By the by, I do hope my grammer is correct, as I did not see that there is a spell check available.

I had Voom for about 3 months.  The quality of their was equal to D* and superior to Charter here in madison.  The major problem is their Customer service and their accounting.  I called about ?'s re: the Olympics and NFL network HD rebroadcast.  I was told a different answer each time.  Their website said the NFL HD feed would begin 8/1.  Well last i heard they are still waiting.  After I cancelled I had to cancel my CC to prevent charges to continue.  Now I am not talking about 1 month after but 3 month after.  I got a call from my CC company asking why I was trying to charge to a Closed acccount and if it was fraud.  I explained to them to was just Voom not knowing what they are doing and the REP actually had heard they have issues with billing from people she works with!!!!  What does that tell you.  Their pricing to also too high.  It was $20 for a premium movie channel, No Sports ticket, and the motorola stb was not very good.  I would go with D*.   just my 2 cents

To make it very simple to decide just look at answers for the following questions:
1. Who has the most HD chanells? Voom (39, three times more then any other).
2. Who will bring local OTA HD? Now onlly TW does this, but you will not get Ch.18 in HD with TW. Sta. companies now offer local HD with OTA antennas. Voom will install it for you.
3. Initial cost? Voom install is $1 per up to 3 HD receivers - nobody beat this price.
4. Want Stars HD (East, West), Cinemax HD (east, West), Encore HD - GET VOOM.

I am happy with VOOM for already 4 months. Software for their Motorola receiver is preety gtood now. I can compare it to Dish Network and TW and it is better then both of them Can't say anything about DirecTV.

The only problem I had with Voom was installation. But I just was patient enough to get over it. They missed 4 appointments. Maybe because I scheduled on Saturdays?

Voom is very good - HD picture is perfect, SD picture is better then Dish Network and TW. They added HGTV and Food network to their SD line. I don't think it is very expensive for what I get:
2 receivers for 61" Hitachi HDTV and Panasonic AE500 HD projector which is so good that we watch Hitachi now only for local news before going to bed and fot some background TV stuff.

1.  Yes they have more hd but let's look at the channels.  You get 10 movie channels that show upconverted old movies, which look ok most of the time, but you don't get new or even newer releases on any of them.  That makes up 10 of 39.  You then take Moov whch is a waste of bandwith due to showing fish swimming and video art which might be cool for a about 5 minutes.  Auction HD which show auctions you can not bid on.  Gallery HD which show museum gallerys. sometimes not bad as it had Milwaukee Art museum on once but mostly like watching paint dry.  That totals 13 channels of 39.  Some of those The worth while ones IMO are Rave(music), Rush(extreme sports), Animania (cartoons) and sometimes Equator HD(due to extreme mosquito noise which makes the picture shimmer horrendously) are great channels.  They do have TNT HD which D* doesn't  yet.  And as you mention a couple movies channels D* does not.  But how can you count an East and West feed as 2 channels when they are showing the same content on a 3 hour lag on the West coast feed?  That makes 10 channels really 5.

2.  Local OTA HD....can't speak to TW but if you have an STB which is HD all you need is an antenna to get your locals with either D* or E* so where is the advantage there?  D* will begin offering local  HD via satellite in 05 once their birds in late spring and add more HD "national" channels.

3.  The offer for $1 is great they should have done this months ago to increase their 30,000 sub base.  You still need to pay each month to rent the STB(s) for either HD or SD sets.

4.  Can't argue that one.  They rule that market.

I guess I have a more poisonous outlook of Voom due to repeatedly being told one thing and having the exact opposite happen, being given a credit for a month to stay when I called to cancel, and then when I did indeed cancel they pulled the credit and charged me for the "free" month.  Also as I mentioned their accounting is horrible.  Trying to charge me every month, 3 months after I cancelled my subscription, is ludicrous.  They also offer no Regional Sports Networks (i.e. No Fox Sports)  I could not watch one Brewers game and I would miss out on the FSN Badger games.
They also have been promising a HD Tivo for months, a Kung Fu HD movie for months, the NFL HD feed, and the Olympics was a cluster as they told people one thing(even via mial) and it did not materialize
I don't wanna sound like a V* basher, but, my experience was not enjoyable.  Check out this website also for info if you would like as they have a VOom forum.   You will get the good and bad. http://www.satelliteguys.us/

Madtown Hd Nut,

I know that you pretty much dislike V*, so I will not try to convince you how great V* is. It will not be possible for me to make this case for you. So I will just make some arguments for somebody who is looking for V* info.
1. I did not pay any attention in my previous post to V* movie channels. I actually watched them once or twice in four months. But my boss who selected V* watch these channels a lot. Because he likes old movies. I am not at his age now, so I watch something else. And they really have something to watch everyday. Rave, Rush, Worldsport (Spanish soccer live and UEFA cup soccer games), Equator are very good channels. You think that Stars HD East, West, Cinemax HD East, West, HBO HD West, Showtime HD West, Encore HD are just couple HD premium channels? Total number is 7, or 3.5 times more than E*, D*, TWC has (only HBO East, Showtime East). I find East West feeds working very well especially on Saturday, when I can time shift some good movies. DVR will make it absolute, but I cannot justify big chunk of money for D* Tivo for their limited content. So time shifting works just fine for me until V* releases their HD home center.
2. I agree that OTA HD is free for E*, D*, V* and most likely the result should be the same. I can tell that in my case I got Fox6 with V* installed small outside antenna, which I could not get with big attic antenna with E*. As for TWC you will miss WB18 (at least for some time now), and you will pay for them.
3. I really don't care much if V* has 30,000 or 3mln users. They have most HD, free initial investment (which I like a lot). With E*, D* it will cost you to install one HD receiver. With V* you will get three for $1.
4. Fox Sport local is a problem for V* now. But I think that it will be solved soon, probably just in time when Fox Sports will start HD programming at least on a weekly basis instead of monthly basis.

Again, for me it works fine, I saved money for an additional HD projector instead of buying HD receivers from D*, E*. And I really like my Panasonic AE500. Voom installation was horrible (5 appointments), but I just was patient and do not regret that I was patient enough.

Andrew whether or not i agree with you about V* it sure was refeshing to have you lay it out so well and fairly.  I sincerely hope V* does improve as competition is good for all.  Thanks for the fair and balanced(promo for Foxnews lol) banter and gl.  :D

I have to agree with Madtown Hd Nut. I had Voom about a year ago. I went thru the same problems with billing. I canceled for the same reasons with their HD package a waste. My locals I could'nt receive at all. They were going to install a bigger antenna but I canceled before that happened.
     Good luck with your decision.
