My DVR 522 seems to shut down after a period of unuse.  I then get the D* logo floating around like a screen saver.  Can anyone tell me why I need a screen saver on a receiver like that?  Is there a work around to keep this from happening?  The two channels seem to be separate in this function, but both do it.

I don't have that particular DVR but I can tell you this is done in order to prevent burn-in on your HD screen. The only way you wouldn't have to worry about that is if you have an LCD screen, which you do. (Not sure about DLP's)

Hi Nels!

I think there is a setup option to turn the "screen saver" off.  Don't have the 522, so I can 't verify it.  Look somewhere in the setup menu options.

One more thing I forgot to mention.  The Dish PVR's won't download program guide data if they are not "turned off" at night.  Leaving them on 24x7 will cause them to hang when they run out of Guide data and are trying to get it.

The reason they have to be off is because they may need to switch satellites and/or polarity and don't want to mess up what you are watching to do it!
