Eh, I believe Mr Powell is a Republican since the Republicans have the White House. The party there gets the majority and Chairmanship of the FCC.

WHO CARES! The FCC still sucks... I don't care who's running it. :guns:

Foxeng is correct, Michael Powell is a republican who was named to a republican chair on the board by Clinton If memory serves me correct.

Michael Powell is Sec. of State Colin Powells son.

It would be a stretch to blame the "Saving Private Ryan" decision by WISN on Bush though.

Quotetrue, but the point here was that it was HD and OAR.
In the couple of years I owned the DVD, I maybe watched it 2 or 3 times total.  Yes the HD versions quality is better, BUT..... if they chop the movie as bad as WB did with Lord of the Rings then IMO, HD or not I can't enjoy it enough to bear the commercials and interuptions.  Although it is a quality movie of impressive subject matter, I personaly don't feel it is a DROP everything must see movie any time it's shown on TV.  It will be quite interesting to see what happens if Mel Gibbson's movie is ever considered for commercial broadcast over the Easter season.:)

The first thing I thought of when I heard this was, "Will they ever show Passion of the Christ uncut"? Not showing a movie uncut because the FCC believes parents are unable to control what their kids watch is something that has been happening since the advent of the FCC. It sucks, but I guess I don't understand what the surprise is.

I also understand that those of us starving for GOOD HD content would like to actually be able to see what the program guide says will be there.

However, worse than channel 12 bowing to FCC pressure is the fact that some on this board have used this event to get on a soapbox and display their political views.
I think we all really know that showing "Far and Away" rather than "Saving Private Ryan" really isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

It's certainly not worth anyone getting into political rants that encourage other political rants, ultimately getting all of us off topic from what we are here to discuss.

I am truly sorry if anyone is offended by this post, I just really hate going to a forum to discuss something and then I find out that some sort of political BS has taken over the discussion.

I don't think they would be able to get a film that should be rated NC-17 shown in primetime.

Actually, with blood and torture, they might.  If it had boobies in it, forget it.

Just remember, and we have experienced this a lot. That employees and officials of area Milwaukee TV stations do access this board.  At least some anyways, maybe not all but they all have access to this board.  We know that stations like WISN-TV, ch. 12 are reading these messages, especially this posting.  Maybe the next time ABC-TV offers "Saving Private Ryan", maybe they will be willing to air it.
