OK-now I'm really confused. I called D* during the MLB playoffs to get the Chnnel 88 feed turned on, got the OK from Customer Service and watched the games without any problem. Today I got a card saying my request for a waiver was denied by the local Fox station. How can they deny it if this is an O&O market??

I was also denied!  I called FOX corporate (Wendy Chambers @ 310-369-3490) and they told me that WITI 6 here locally did the denying.  I called fox 6 and talked to them here and was told that the general manager here in Milw. is denying all of these waivers.  They feel that it is our own fault that we are unable to receive their weak signal.  They told me to subscribe to Time-warner cable.

Fox 6 decided to make some people very upset when it comes to getting their weak signal over the air. Now they throw some more gasoline on the fire by telling people to get Time Warner for their HD signal. I believe the term, "GET B*nt!!" come to mind.

That's is the worst thing they could do. Are they asking people to stop watching them? My parents were considering D* for their new HD hookup, but they would get denied a chance to get it unless they can get them OTA. I say that Fox 6 will get no respect from me until they reverse their decision.

If they wanted to promote their station they could accept the requests for the D* feed until they are running at a reasonable power. Once they achieve the coverage zone for outlying areas, they could decline the use of the feed.

Common sense? I feel it lacking over at 6.

You will not need a waiver for FOX-HD from D*.......when it comes on line.

This is feed is from FOX and is a deal between fox and D*.  The local affiliate will not have the ability to over ride this agreement if they are an O & O station.  However Fox-HD is not yet on D* so there is really nothing to get a waiver for.  You will get the FOX national feed out of NY when it comes online the WITI-6 management will have nothing to say about it.

ok, here is how waivers work.

currently you don't need waivers for distant HD networks. If you have a waiver (which is based on the analog station, not the HD one) you will get distant HD nets, but if you don't have a waiver you can still get the net if you live in an O&O market.

Waivers right now are SOLELY based on the analog signal. To get an HD distant net in a non-O&O market you basically have to not be able to receive the analog station. weird, but that's how it is.

as for actually getting an analog waiver, well, you basically have to be unable to receive the station from an outdoor antenna raised 30' above the ground.. good luck with that in the metro area.. :\

anyway, once FoxHD goes up on D*, for the meantime we'll be covered under the O&O clause.. until that goes away.
