I don't see the big deal? From their cable card info:

QuoteWhat is CableCARD™ ?

    * Access analog, digital cable, HDTV and premium cable channels like HBO, Cinemax and more - without a digital set-top box.
    * There are limitations to a CableCARD™ connection - You do not have access to
o On Demand with iControl functions that enable you to pause, fast-forward and rewind On Demand programming, including Movies On Demand, Premiums On Demand and Favorites On Demand
          o Interactive Program Guide
o Season sports packages such as NBA League Pass
o Interactive and enhanced TV services, such as games
          o Pay-Per-View

I never use pay-per-view, and I rarely use their iControl features... so as long as I were to get an HD-DVR that comes with TVGuide functionality, I'd be set!

Of course this is all personal preference, but I don't see what's so horrible about a CableCard.

Agreed.  I have not yet ever used pay per view, and have only browsed the free iControl features that TW offers.

I agree that I want a receiver with component (heck even DVI or HDMI) switching... But I'm not going to run out and do that immediately... The TV is enough of an investment for now!  :)

On my way out of work, I'm going to stop by and look at the sets again.  I am starting to lean toward the Sony.

I'm probably going to call the store and have them switch me to the Sony.

Does anyone know if the cablecard slots on the TVs can be firmware upgraded to become two-way when that is available?

I'm not sure, but I'd say if you're planning on using pay-per-view or any icontrol stations, you can always go with a box. (The only icontrol stations really worth anything would be the premiums indemand.)
