The western fringe folks of this forum have an alternative Fox HD outlet as of 10/08.

From Fox47's website:

October 8, 2004:
WMSN TV is now broadcasting in HD!

Fox 47 is happy to report we are now transmitting High Definition in 720P. Our FOX network programming produced in HD will pass through our over-the-air digital television transmitter on VHF Channel 11 (47-1). Any non HD programming is being up-converted to 720P. At this time our HD signal is available via FREE over-the-air only and is not available on any cable system, nor any of the various Satellite carriers (DirecTV, Dish Network, etc). We continue efforts to have our HD signal be included on cable and will advise you if and when we have updated information. We hope you enjoy the fantastic video you will now see on our HD channel.

Does anyone have the Madison FOX-HD Power

level from 'a location' & denoting antenna type?

What might be stations HD range in miles?

According to  www.2150.com/broadcast

It says wmsm  fox47 is running 5kw on a 1545 foot tower. I'm about 55 miles SE from them and getting 70 to 90 signal strength on a zenith HD-420 STB.  It also shows an oblong antenna pattern situated NW to SE which may be why I'm getting this station so strong.

For what ever it is worth I asked (email) and they said they are sending it through at 17mbs...hoping to go to 18 soon.

Another good reason you are getting this station so strong is that the DTV transmitter transmits on VHF ch. 11.  VHF signals tend to be easier to pick up tham UHF.

Also it will be interesting if they can get on cable. Remember they too are O & O by Sinclair Broadcasting Group.

I am too picking them up around the watertown area, the signal strength running about 70 to 90 for me too.  I was able to watch the ball games last night from fox 47.

Useing the biggest Channel Master antenna they make for HD fringe areas and through a Intergra 912s OTA/FTA receiver.

That would be a good trick since FOX is only sending at 15 mps max.

Just repeating what I was told from them via Email.  Will it be sent at higher bandwidth from Fox's main feed in the future?

I've chatted with the ABC-HD Engr 720p people in GBay.

One of the advantages of 720p over 1080i is that 720p

takes less Bandwidth than 1080i, but requires more computer

processing power. So it is easier for a 720p HD channel

to offer both a 15mbs HD and a 2.5 mbs SD subchannel...

I believe those are the numbers used for the ABC GBay setup...

 By the way.....

The NBC-HD chan 41/analog 26 was just purchased by TMJ.

The GBay Station Manager & News director are now Journal

Company folks...   The HD portion of the NBC-HD chan 41 since

noon yesterday was a full power, blank screen for both OTA &

TWC with no audio.  I finally at noon made 'the phone call'.

Weekend HD calls must go thru the News Dept as they do answ.

Just before the Kansas NASCAR NBC 480p wide race began,

the 'problem' was corrected...   Their TV 26 Analog signal

  was fine all week end....

Yea it might have been 720p but it sure wasn't HD. I was able to catch the  Seattle/St. Louis overtime on Fox 6 and it looked very nice there.

Monday morning after seeing this thread I switched from my Channel Master 4228(UHF only) back to my cheopo $3 garage sale find UFH/VHF/FM antenna which works pretty well most of the time. I get 8 bars of signal strenghth normally watching Fox47 from Jefferson.   I still get the same signal strength, however I noticed that there were some moving lines across the picture around 6 - 7 am this morning. I also noticed this on 27 (ABC) out of Madison, but it was not as bad.  I think these two stations are on the same tower.  I have never seen this on 27 before.  All of my other stations CBS 3, NBC 15 were great this morning.  Any body have the same problem.  Maybe they were doing some more work early?

Just checked Fox 47 as well as all the other Madison dtv signals and they are all clear as of noon today. As an aside that antenna carries 4 stations analog and digital signals, ABC, CBS, Fox and Pbs. I think NBC 15 and WB 57 share another tower.

PROBLEMS!!!

I don't know what was going on yesterday, but things were not good!  All evening starting around 5ish I tried to watch some TV, it seemed like at first Fox47 and ABC27 were having problems with a single horizontal line or multiple horizontal lines on the screen.  Once the packers started playing I stopped watching 47 and for the start of the game I noticed no lines, but as the game went on I started getting pixelation.  Now, bear in mind, 27 is one of the easiest channels for me to receive.  A couple times I started noticing the lines on other channels except CBS 3.  At 9 I started watching CSI-Miami and watched most of the show, until about the last 10 minutes when that started to break up and pixelate a bit.  I shut my Samsung T151 off a couple times, switched antennas, checked connections.  I am wondering if this is a topographical thing or what?  Any comments about your viewing of the game or other Madison stations last night would be appreciated.
