I saw a commercial for TWC yesterday saying they have 15 HD channels.  How did they come up with that number??

The Law

'Tis True.  Here's the lineup :

500 HBO HD
501 Showtime HD
504 WTMJ HD (NBC)
505 WDJT HD (CBS)
506 WITI HD (FOX)
510 MPTV HD (PBS)
512 WISN HD (ABC)
530 ESPN HD
531 FOX Net HD
533 TNT HD
541 DISC HD (Discovery)
545 iNHD 1 (iNDemand HD 1)
546 iNHD 2 (iNDemand HD 2)
547 HDNET (HD Net)
548 HDNETMV (HD Net Movies)

I really like to think of it as only 14 because everytime you go to Channel 531- Fox Sports Net HD, you have test patterns.
Now they mention Bucks, but that is not for now...its for later.
15 HD Channels is really 14 DAILY-WATCHABLE - 15  is hype!

Why don't they just put this channel up there when it is actually  on like Directv does, with its special events channels
-then delete it until something's actually on (like almost never)?

If they really want to impress, they can add Sinclair's WB18 HD
(Channel 518) and when HD, UPN24 (Channel 524).
- Then you're talkin' HD Channels!
While were counting, they could add Cinemax HD and Starz!HD, too!:D

But the ad also said for $4.95/month and you can't get all those for $4.95/month..

I'd like to see the add. There must be some fine print someplace. Maybe they are talking about the additional HD package for $6.95. They could be running a special, but you need to have at least one of the Dig Pic packages first.

To get all 15 (14 for gparris)  You need at least one of the digipic packages, plus HBO and Showtime, plus the HD package.

gparris

14 HD Channels with 1 extremely part time, equals 15 totally available if you wait long enough...Directv has 8 full time when you include their PPV channel, same for DishNetwork, and this count only applies to actual carriage by the provider, not OTA.

As for pricing, summerfun is right, to get them you have to have the Digipic 2000 package at $67.95 and the $6.95 HD package together, then add the $7.95 for the non-DVR HD box for a total of $82.85, plus tax and franchise fee.
This gives you both HBO and Showtime HD channels (plus the 30+ other ones in digital SD)...and the 5 HD channels the HD package, for the 14-15 count (unless they are adding something full-time, soon, which I doubt).
Anything else is purely false advertising!
I would hate to be some TWC CSR and get blasted once the subscriber opens up their bill thinking otherwise...
Where IS that ad?

Ouch!!!   I'll stick with my free HD for now.

No. You can have ANY digipic package you like. We have the lowest digipic + HBO + HD Package.

The only requirement is ANY digipic package (and of course an HDTV cable box, which is the same price as a standard cable box, unless of course you get the DVR). Here's the cheapest way to get the HD Package:

Digipic 1000 - $47.95
HD Package - $6.95
HDTV Box - $7.95

TOTAL: $62.85 + taxes

optional DVR - $6.95

TOTAL w/DVR - $69.80 + taxes

A lot of misinformation going on around here. :bang:

Look, I just talked to a TWC CSR and for you to get HBO and its corresponding HBO channel HD channel there is a $15 HBO package adder, where the heck did you get your figures...guessing doesn't cut it. :(
Your have to have a digital package to get HBO at that package starts at $47.95 and includes NO PREMIUMS!
AS for the DVR charge, unless you plan on getting the SD DVR, the DVR charge is $6.95 per box...the $5 DVR charge applies only to the SD DVR!
My neighbours and I will gladly show you our bills!!!

See this from their updated website:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/milwaukee/products/cable/digipic.html

As far as free HBO, "dream on"!:D Your total is $47.95+$15 (HBO package)+$6.95 HD Package+$7.95 for HD DVR box-only and $6.95 for HD DVR service per box...which is $84.80 plus tax and fees....this is directly from my call to TWC-today and backed up by another CSR she asked.

I wasn't talking about HBO (they also have Showtime which you didn't add to the equation), and yes, I made a mistake on the DVR charge, which I've corrected in my calculations. I was talking about what is required to get the HD package. HBO is available in HD, but not part of the HD package. You CAN get HBO HD as long as you have HBO but no HD package (assuming you have an HDTV box).

gparris

My neighbourhood friend got her HD set, changed to TWC so she could record her HD on the DVR without spending hundreds and she spends, without HBO, $47.95+6.95 (HD Package) + 7.95 HD DVR box + $6.95 HD DVR service charge...$69.80 plus  tax.

I told her the best and least expensive way to get the maximum HD channels, without premiums, is this route which means:
She gets 13 HD channels, with the Fox Sports Net HD part-timer.:)
If you want just HBO, add $15, then additionally $5 more each for Showtime, The Movie Channel (s) and Cinemax...the last two are not in HD yet on TWC (only VOOM). Starz! is $8.95 and the Encore package is $3.50 extra, again no HD Channel for it  on TWC.:(

So to maximize your HD-channel availability without adding another $20, still record HD, this works well...;)

Wow, exactly what I said (and exactly the number I gave)! ;)

On the other hand, I've just made the decision to subscribe to Showtime as well, so now I get every HD channel available. :D
I can always pull Showtime off the account if it becomes too much money. We all know HBO is the one to have. :guns:

Well, your introduction pricing was correct without premiums and you started mentioning HBO and that was confusing, not to me, but to a forum reader trying to get a handle on TWC pricing.

If you have internet with TWC, you will get a discount with the Digipic 2000 package (HBO and Showtime both) and it would be like getting Showtime for free, so to speak...a good deal better...enjoy!

Mark Strube

Could you give a breakdown on the pricing for that deal you're speaking of? To help, here's the breakdown of what we're getting currently:

Digipic 1000: $47.95
HBO: $10
Showtime: $5
HD Package: $6.95
HD DVR: $14.90 (7.95 + 6.95)
HDTV Box: $7.95
EarthLink Cable: $41.95

TOTAL: $134.70

Per the TWC website previously mentioned, the following:
(1) HD-DVR box-only is $7.95
 and  HD-DVR service-only is $6.95 (per box)=$14.90 total.
Then, per the website:
HD Package is $6.95 then...
DigiPic 2000 is any 2 premiums, including all standard digital and non-premium channels offered, (except for the sports package tier):
$67.95 (HBO and Showtime SD digital channels total about 30)
Note message in website for savings on Road Runner, note that no "Earthlink" is mentioned :
See below:
Road Runner High Speed Online - only $44.95 a month
Add Road Runner to DIGIPiC 2000 or DIGIPiC 4000 for just $40.00 per month and save $60 a year.

If Earthlink is a preference, then get it.
RoadRunner alone,  personally, is a great value and you can get internet access without Earthlink!

Your pricing (this time) was in error...HBO is $15 by itself with the Digipic 1000 (no premiums) and you then added your HD box pricing...twice!

$67.95 + $14.90+6.95+40 = $129.80!;)
