I'm thinking of getting a Channel Master 4228 antenna, are they available anywhere in the area?  If it doesn't work out, I rather not deal with the shipping etc.

Hopefully this will be the answer to more consistant OTA reception in Tosa...?

Chure-

I have kept my eyes open for the CM4228 everywhere I go where there might be antennas,  guess I am an HD nut like most of us, I find myself looking at antenna setups on homes as I drive around.  Anyway, NO I have not found a place that sells this antenna on the shelf.  I bought mine through Warren Electronics for $50, which you can go online and order or call their number.

You can't get much of an antenna for $50 these days that can touch the signal strength I get from this bad boy.  I have messed with antennas for some time and have found this to be the best antenna, IMO, around, if you are looking for UHF only.

Try,
//www.warrenelectronics.com or 1-800-397-5301

THis place is awesome!!!   Shipping was super fast and they only charged me $14.00 to ship the antenna which I thought was good.

Just wanted to get my two cents in...

I got the 4228 and put it up as the sun set last night.  4, 12, 18, 36 all came in great but 6 was 20-30% and nothing on 58, was 58 out again last night?

I did try an 75-ohm attenuator and didn't seem to have any effect. Is that the correct attenuator to use?

I'll going to try to reaim it this weekend.

From my experience the 4228 is very sensitive to aiming.  It took me quite a few tries to find a place where I can get 6-1 and 18-1 without breakups on either.  Of course my antenna is in an attic, and your mileage may vary.  It is the only antenna that solved my problem.

you really just have to work with it.. sorry..

I will say that you aren't much further from the towers than I am.. you are a bit more west but I am a bit more south. basically what you have to do at this point is diminish 12's signal enough that 6 will come in fine.

and yeah, 58 was still out.. but don't worry about 58.. with that antenna and on the roof 58 won't be an issue for you.

as far as attenuator, the important number is the dB attenuation, not the connector (75ohm). I would get the variable one (a little knob with min and max printed on it). Otherwise you are going to have to get a decent assortment of fixed ones to mix and match (20dB, 5dB, 3dB, etc)

That sounds like the attenuator that I have.

I'll reaim this weekend and hopefully it does the trick. I'll try with and without the attenuator to find the right mix.

I'm not sure what I'll do with my time when I'm not on the roof all the time....oh yeah, I'll get to enjoy HD!
