Anyone with an "in" at American? re: JVC 61" DILA

Hello,

A couple of weeks ago I purchased the 61" JVC DILA TV (all in black) from American TV.  They did not have them in stock, but the estimated date to get more in stock was yesterday.  As of this morning, they still do not have them...

Does anyone have an "in" at American?  If so, can you check to see what the story is on these?

I got a great deal on this set from American, but does anyone know anywhere else in the area that has the 61" JVC all in black?  I have seen them at Best Buy (won't buy there and they only have the silver/black) and Sears (only 52" in silver/black), but they aren't quite the right thing (color/size)...  If there is somewhere else I can find it in stock and who will match American's price, I would consider that as well.

Thanks.

Damn...  I just called JVC's Midwest Sales Center and found out that my TV won't likely be back in stock until mid to late October...

Sucks to pay so much for a TV to wait for it for a month and a half... :(

According to the lady at JVC I talked to they "drastically underestimated" the demand for the black/black 61" set, and we may not see a full pipeline before the ones with the built-in tuner start rolling off the line in late October/early November.  Apparently they've tweaked the balance of black/black to black/silver ones in the later models.  Or maybe she's just making up a story, who can tell these days.

Ok... Now I just received a phone call from the salesperson at American.  He said that he contacted the vendor, and the TVs are shipping out tomorrow.

I guess I'll find out soon who is correct...

I'm guessing these TVs have survived the AVS Forum critical viewers/owners?  They might be the first LCoS TVs to survive that hurdle.  Please keep us updated once you have them in your homes.

Thanks.

The all-black sets in at least IMHO, show the least reflections and fit in better, depending on whether you have any silver components or stand to go with it.

I am wondering why they didn't come out with the all-black model to begin with...then the silvered ones?

Keep patient...you will get it!:)

Then tell us how great the set is...I personally have had issue with non-TV JVC products...but I wish you the best of luck!

In honestly, there are some "known issues" with these sets.  Some folks on AVS (umr in particular) seem to think that the scaler electronics are not exactly top notch, there have been some issues with minor panel alignment or chromatic abberation causing test patterns to have single-pixel colour fringes, and some people see internal reflections on the smaller set in particular. They also have the usual digital microdisplay problems with blocking artifacts being artificially sharpened by pixel boundaries.

All that said, they're one of the better looking sets I've personally evaluated in the current crop.  I really like the Sim HD2+ set, but not for 2x the price of the rest of the market segment, and the "wobbulated" Samsungs bother me in some way I can't quite put a finger on.  The HD2+ Samsungs are very nice, but don't have the colour balance that the D-ILA has.  The new 70" Sony SXRD will likely give the D-ILA a run for its money in the spring/summer, CEDIA folks were very impressed by it, and I'll have to look at the wobbulated 1080p Samsung when it ships just 'cause it's 1080p, but I don't think one would go terribly wrong buying the D-ILA at this point in time.

Thanks MrMike for your update.

I think we will see a number of 1080p products in 2005 and beyond.  LG is planning to put out their 10 bit 1080p LCoS as well.  I'm all for competition as a consumer.

I would love to get a 1080p product, but I'm in the market right now, and who knows what the price of the new 1080p set will be... Also, how much 1080p material are we going to have to watch?

A lot of those "known issues" seem to only be on a small number of the JVC sets however.  People who have contacted JVC with any of these issues seem to be very pleased with the response.

I have noticed that some of the modes of the TV will cause pixellation, but this can usually be fixed by changing modes/settings.  I hope that I am as satisfied with this TV as I think I will be...  I wanted a digital technology so as to not worry about burn-in and for the smaller form-factor.  LCD has too much screen-door effect and too "light" of blacks.  DLP looks great and I like the HD2+ sets, but I wasn't sure I wanted the pedestal design, I thought greater than 56" might be nice, and I don't like the glare on the Mits HD2+ set.  I am also fearful that I (or someone who watches at my house) might become susceptible to the rainbow effect.

In honesty, I was just about set to buy the 56" pedestal Samsung, but when I saw the JVC set compared to others at several stores, I became very impressed with it.  In addition, I could get the 61" JVC for cheaper than the 56" Samsung (well, maybe about the same when the stand is taken into account).  I am hoping it is worth the wait...

I understand.  You have to buy what is available to you.  I had to buy a CRT based RPTV when I was in the market!

I don't know if the future will hold 1080p material for us.  I know there is plenty of 1080i material that just needs to be de-interlaced to show up on a 1080p set.  You would still get the one for one pixel mapping, and not have to worry about scaling.  Of course then ABC, Fox, and ESPN will have to be scaled for these sets.  You can't win 'em all.

I hope you enjoy your new display.
