Anyone know if this game is in 720p? Looks like it's 480p to me.

If this is what Fox will be passing as HD, we're not going to be happy campers. Picture is very soft and the colors are over-saturated. There's plenty of "saw-tooth" artifacts on the straight lines as well when they're zoomed out. The CBS game (Raiders @ Steelers) looks much better. Although CBS is having their difficulties as well with periodic pixelation every couple of minutes. My signal strength from CBS is very strong so I know it's not my reception causing the pixelation. However, when there's no pixeltion, the picture quality on CBS beats Fox hands down.

Well, they're advertising that it's 720p DD 5.1.

I dunno for  sure, Mr PQ is great, with the exception an occasional freeze of the pic.

I have not had any freezes or pixelation at all on Fox.  That much is good.  I do have a problem with the soft blurriness and the color saturation though. When the camera is zoomed out just before the snaps, I can't make out much detail in the players. The same camera shot on CBS shows much better detail.  The zoomed in shots on Fox look great, but that's not when the action takes place.  I played around with my receiver and it actually looks slightly better when it up-converts to 1080. I don't know why that would be, but it's true.  Maybe I'm just seeing the difference between 720 and 1080. The CBS picture has more clarity to it.

I'll check out the Cowboy/Viking game and see if that looks the same. Hopefully the problem is only with this specific game and the others will look better.

The PQ on CBS SHOULD be better... it's 1080i.

I watched a few"Enhanced Definition" widescreen games last season, and this is a lot better than that. They just did a Montage of first half shots that showed some pretty impressive images.

The 5.1 would be nice....

I believe the Fox broadcast is in 5.1, no?  Or are you talking about CBS?

I've read a lot of posts regarding how difficult it would be to notice the difference between 720 and 1080. Well if that's what I'm seeing between CBS and Fox, it's VERY easy to see.

Still it's better than 4:3, SD any day...

Yeah I saw that advertisement and I am seeing 5.1 during the game.  I think CBS looks a little better maybe because it is 1080i which is what my SA 8000HD box is set to where as the Fox feed is 720p which is then converted to 1080i.

Strange I can only hear 5.1 during the game. What does it look like?

Yeah I only hear 5.1 during the game but when it goes to commercial it goes back to 2.0.  I think the FOX feed looks damn good.  I just tried to go back to CBS and compare and the CBS feed is in SD with borders on the side! WTF!

Edit:  I take that back.  They are at commercial now and they are 5.1... I must have been confused with the CBS which is always crap ass 2.0.   I'm not sure how long FOX has been 5.1 but it must have been when they went to true HD.

Hrm... seeing.. hearing... duh! :)

I'm GETTING Pro Logic, not 5.1 on Fox.. both on TWC and OTA... If they're passing through a 5.1, I better get that fixed by next Sunday...

The Raider/Steeler game is turning into a game (tied with 4.5 minutes left) and CBS is still in SD :(

Yeah, that sucked. It was a great game, but for whatever reason, the last quarter and a half or so was in SD. There for a while, they kept trying to kick it back to HD, but it would just flicker in some HEAVY pixilation and the drop back to SD.

Oh well, at least the most important thing happened. The Steelers won! :D

Btw... this appears to have been a local station problem as the national boards are not mentioning any problems with this broadcast.

We're always the lucky ones.

frankly you want my opinion? well, you're gonna get it.. :P

that was HD.. all of the problems that I saw appeared to me like the problems we had with ABC and their HD superbowl. Over contrast on some shots, too much edge enhancement, etc. as for the asctual resolution, it looked fine, it just looks like fox will have its work cut out for it as to learning how to shoot a game with HD cameras... overall I really have to commend them though. very little compression afrtifacts or pixelization. they just have to learn how to use the cameras.. kudos fox.

and the games were in 5.1 for most of the games. there was some dropping to 2.0 but for the most part it was 5.1 all the way. at least OTA on my Tivo..

and from file zies it appears fox is still around 17Mbps or so.. certainly fine for 720p.. kudos Fox and Fox6...
