DirecTV Fox HD (and NBC HD)

Just so everyone is aware, Fox HD "should" be up and running on DirecTV no later than next Sunday. Their plan is to mirror the feeds from CBS and Fox on the Sunday Ticket HD channels which would mean Fox HD should be up and running sometime during the next week. This is important to us because as WITI is Fox O&O we will be eligible to receive the channel.

On a similar note, NBC HD is reportedly going to be up on DirecTV no later than 9/21. However, this has no bearing on us as WTMJ is owned by Journal Broadcasting.

The only big four HD network that wiull be missing from DirecTV will be ABC which should be up sometime this fall... Then we will be back to where I started with DirecTV almost 7 years ago. The big four networks as distant feeds and needing to get your locals over the antenna... lol.....I guess that means I should see my local channels over directv in about two and a half years.. lol...

Maybe when ABC adds the last 2 HD network feeds, they can add the TNT-HD channel, as there will be room as the 70's have only 3 channel spaces left in them for Cinemax, Starz! and Encore HD channels if the negotiations go through...Have you heard anything about more channel additions, like you did before?

Does anyone know which football games we will get with FOX HD from DirecTV -- Packers or some East Coast team?

borghe

hope you like the new york giants. we will also get the second game on double header weekends, but if the giants and packers play at the same time then we will end up with the same game anyways.

afaik we will only get the east feed. east and central get the east feed and pacific and mountain get the west feed.

Borghe,

I do not understand the access rules on DirectTV.  Does this mean that I can now get the FOX HD feed 24 hours a day from DirectTv even though I live in the Milwaukee area and are theoretically part of the FOX six viewing area?

Does it matter that I can't get 6.1 (actually I can barely get it, but pixelation is terrible)

Always appreciate your posts....

Yes you will be able to...because the local Fox station is owned and operated (O&O) by Fox itself.  So they don't care if you watch one of their other feeds.

well, it's not that they don't care, it's just that the agreement between Fox and DirecTV (aka News Corp and News Corp) says that we can get it and the local stations don't get a choice because they are owned by the same company as well...

which is actually I found out what happened to the Olympics as well.. Basically many affiliates complained that if the HD channels carried the same Olympic programming (which isn't tracked for ratings) that the local networks ratings would drop. So NBC instead gave us that horribly late coverage and the local stations got their ratings.

Any idea what channel FOX HD will be on?  Will I need to upgrade my package to get this channel?  I currently have Total Choice PLUS with the HD package.

borghe

well, the bad news is there hasn't been any official word on it.

the good news is that the channels for NFL ST are up and the HD Fox games are listed, so it is assumed that things are scheduled for sunday at the latest.

btw, DirecTV usually doesn't announce channels before they are on the air.. so there is a very good chance that they won't announce the channels and just turn them on.

murdoc

Is that what channels 90-98 were?  They were listed as NFL and I assumed to view them you had to have NFL ST.

What DirecTV package will be required to receive the FOX HD feed?  I currently do not have the HD package, but I do have locals.  Will I be able to receive FOX HD?

And yes, I do have a DirecTV HD receiver (Samsung TS160).

I have a sneaking hunch that you will need the HD package...but don't quote me on that...maybe someone has a more definitive answer.

Total choice and your local package is what I have heard.

It's not looking good here.  I checked channels 90-97, and 389, I get nothing.

I also checked channels 90 thru 98 on Sunday along with 388 (the channel a Directv rep told me to check.  The Directv guy also filed a waiver form for me.  I've heard nothing yet!
