A fair question being this seems to be the big difference so far between TWC and D*. So which one would you rather have IN ITS CURRENT FORM? (i.e. not taking into account that TNT will eventually have more HD content or that BravoHD+ is being reworked with content from USA and Sci-Fi).

dlhoppe

I already have both on Voom.  As it stands right now, I like BravoHD+ the best.

even being a big D* fanboy, I had to pick neither. Truth is I watch enither SD channel and would not tune in to either of them for HD.

Now if/when NBC pulls their extreme makeover of BHD+ with content from other channels, particularly sci-fi... WOOWOOOO!! I'm all aboard that train. But as both channels stand right now.. no thanks, I'll pass.. (even though I'll get Bravo "for free" in the HD package)

Hophead

Have both on Voom, and have watched several programs on both.  Forget D*TV and TWC and Start Vooming!!!!

heh.. with DirecTV's announcements set for CEDIA next week, not likely. ;)

Will Directv have a  booth there and if so, do you think they will wait until next week to inform what is (or will hope to be) coming out for HD channels?:D

If so, then I think the TNT-HD, Starz!HD and Cinemax HD will for sure be announced as BravoHD+ you said will be here by now, although checking the Directv schedule on line, cannot find Channel 74 yet...maybe a few more days.

yes, DirecTV has a booth at Cedia. Some things epexcted to be announced:

22 HD channels including distant HD networks of the big four w/ east/west feeds (ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX).

Programming from 95° Galaxy 3. DirecTV owns quite a few transponder frequencies in that area that were just freed up by the sale of PanAmSat.

Programming from 72.5° which will be midwest and east coast locals.

A new "superdish". More specifically a 5 LNB oval dish at 33.2". It will be compatible with all existing multi-sat receivers (most likely through transponder frequency shifting like sat c).

the new DirecTV DVR. It is expected that this will be an HD DVR with a 160GB HD in it and the XTV interface. It will be a lower tier DVR aimed at the crowd who finds the $1000 Tivo too pricey. The unit should start shipping before October.

The Tivo is not left for dead. The new base model will be announced to use an 80GB drive. This new base model should start shipping in September.

All of this is "rumor" but all widely believed to be announced at CEDIA or sometime shortly after. I am not an insider nor do I have any insider friends (anymore). This is all from relatively reputable people on the net.

"IF" all of this happens in the near future (Q4'04/Q1'05) Voom will have a tough time competing without available space or money, Dish will have a tough time without any money, and cable will have a tough time competing unless they already have negotiations going and will have channels up in a similar time frame. Either way, IF all of this happens, DirecTV will pull a Fox. :D

{For those who don't get the reference, "a Fox" is where a company appears to be sucking some serious wind and then in a 180° turnaround becomes pretty much the leader of their respective industry)

Just my thoughts.
