Lost CBS Signal

Since there's no chatter on this site now I'm assuming I'm the only one whose signal just dropped to 34.  Antenna's in the same position.  Oh well, I hope you guys enjoy the game.

They were running test patterns earlier this afternoon. Perhaps they got new equipment and are testing it out.

Now that I hear someone in Chicago received their signal, I wish CBS would point that antenna a little more toward the lake. It fluctuates like crazy here while folks West of the city claim constant 90+ percent reception.

The new open source edition of HiPix software lets you monitor all stations' reception for antenna positioning. None of the other stations budge but +-1 percentage point. No matter what I do CBS just seems all over the place ranging from 53-70 every minute at all angles with both the indoor and roof antennas.

The 1080i stuff looks very good aside from the dropouts due to fluctating signals, but the upconverted games last weekend were atrocious. I caught some 4:3 broadcast in 1080i this morning. (Morning Show today and a bit of the syndicated junk) They all looked about 10 X better than the games last week, but the WEBFN broadcast could make you sick. The scrolling ticker is in double vision mode.

I don't know how this fits in but I have had a curious problem with 46. During the day I adjust my Winegard for the strongest signal (at about 70) and when I come back at night its dropped to 25-30. TMJ digital is just fine.  Have to readjust the antenna and I find I have to point the damn thing almost north to get 46 at 70 again.  I thought the rotor and antenna were off or mis aligned but after several checks visually thats not it. I assume I'm picking up multipath but this is ridiculous. Its like hitting a moving target.

Yeah.. I have to adjust my antenna every time I turn on 46. 8 and 28 I set once I have to never have to touch them again (unless I've watched 46 and had to re-aim for that).

Okay, Jim your turn.  I did all the things you suggested last Friday; after I ran your test you suggested I move the antenna.  Okay, I'm not the expert here; I'm willing to do what's necessary to get a good signal.  Last Saturday I placed the antenna on the garage roof and made adjustments to get the best signal I could and it worked.  Thank you very much, BUT now the signal has dropped, for no apparent reason, from 84 to 34!!!!!  The antenna hasn't moved the other stations are as strong as ever, so now what?  Do broadcast antennas have a radiating pattern?  If they do how about pointing it away from Illinois, I could care less if some guy in Carbondale can get your signal!  He's not in your market area anyway!

Respectfully
Ray

So here we go again this am.  After fine tuning the unit for the games last night on 46, this morning finds a signal strength of 25.  Rotate the antenna east and we're back to normal.  You guys have that tower on a flat bed that you move every day?

Well, I can't explain it but the CBS signal is back up to 82.  We'll see how long this last.

This isn't funny any more Jim.  The signal was fine earlier this afternoon and now it's down to 46.  Not enough to lock onto!
