DTC-100 firmware issues?

I just read the transcript from the chat with Jim Hall.

Could someone explain in a little more detail what the issue is with the RCA DTC-100 firmware that was mentioned?

I think mine is bad/corrupt because I can't tune channels 1-1, through 1-5 like were mentioned and channel 58 digital comes through on 46-2 for me.

I was getting 58 on 46-2 on my DTC-100 as well. But I was also getting the other locals on their digital channels as well, so I didn't understand what the big deal was.

Right after I got my DTC-100 I was having trouble picking up WMVS, and someone suggested turning off the off-air guides as a way to improve it. It worked, so I never gave it another thought. Basically that option just shuts off the data channel (program information and channel mapping), preserving the bandwidth strictly for programming.

During the chat, I turned my off-air guides back on, enetered channel 1, and CBS58 came up. Jim Hall suggested a firmware defect, but Sean O'Flaherty, an engineer from WTMJ says he thinks there is a possibility that it might be a setting on CBS58's configuration. (It's great to see competing engineers willing to help each other out)

Check yours to see if you have your off-air guide turned off. If so, turn it back on.
(Menu/Assistance/Off air guides) After you turn them back on, give it a while to download the guides and lock on to the picture.

Aha!

I had off-air guides turned off.  I turned it on, did a full scan and everything fixed itself.  1 is channel 58, 1-1 is 58HD, etc.

Thanks, Tom.
