So it just occured to me.. Many people here are looking at FOX-HD on DirecTV as a way to get Fox HD programming while not being able to receive WITI's signal. And to these people, it sucks that this means they wouldn't be able to see the packers in HD every week without subscribing to TWC.. Which I agree stinks. :(

But for the good news, think about this.. This means those of us who CAN get Fox 6 still qualify for the national feed from DirecTV. This means that on many weeks we will possibly get an ADDITIONAL HD NFL game along with the Packer game.. granted we would have to flip back and forth between the two, but for those of us with HD Tivos this problem has long since been fixed.

So here's to getting a free HD NFL game in the Milwaukee DMA most weeks from FOX-HD on DirecTV.. How great is that.. :)

That is great......but whats even greater is this years NFL ST.
100 games in HD plus the ESPN & MNF games each week.  With a bunch of college games salted in during the week & saturdays.

It looks to be a great year for HD & football, both NFL & college.

(or 6pm if you want the pre-game for the scrimmage)

I am suddenly getting 6.1 OTA on a D* HD reveiver.  Conveniently in time for the game tomorrow.  Who knows how long it will stay?  I hope for good all fall and not just game days.  It is a nice 720p picture.

Go Pack!

Packman,

I don't believe Fox is broadcasting in 720p yet.  I think they are scheduled to start with the new NFL season.  You may be seeing Enhanced definition which is 480p / fox widescreen.

The good news is the 720p will look even better when you see that.

I just bought my Sony HD300 this evening. I think I am using it correctly, but its new. When I roll channel-up and look at the display on the unit, it lists 4.1 in 1080i, 6.1 in 720p, and 10.1 in 1080i.  The changing display leads me to believe that is what the signal really is.

I watched Seinfeld at 6:30 and it was loooking like SD, but then Bernie Mac and the prime time line up looked really sharp after 7pm.  I think the prime time shows really were 720p.  The evening news looked like SD.  So in my opinion, depending on when you view it you were either impressed or thought it was low quality.  All evening my unit displayed 720p for Fox but there was a major difference per show.  Its all in the eye of the beholder.

I respect your opinion but I do have a pretty good eye for details if I do say so myself.

The local fox 6 is broadcasting in 720p and has been for awhile now, that is why your TV shows the signal as 720p. They are upconverting the national feed.

The national feed is still 480p widescreen for your prime time shows. They will switch to 720p this fall. The non primetime shows are still SD from the national feed and that is why you can see a PQ difference from show to show.

10.1 should be listed as 480i  The PBS HD channel is 36.1

6.1  is sending out everything upconverted to 720p
