Do I have any hope?

of getting Fox-6?

I'm in Lisbon - Hwy Q and Lake Five Road.

Get 4, 12, 58, 24 digital fine.  On 6 I get a reading of midteens in strength.  58 is in the 70's.

Should I even bother going up into the attic and fooling with the position of the attenna?

If I were to do so, any tips on which direction I should try to move it?

Thanks!

If I can get a 70 with my Radio Shack Indoor Double Bow Tie at Goldendale and Freistadt in Germantown, you should easily be able to get a signal where you are.

Your problem is not as much as 6's singal as it is 12's interference.  My guess is that you're aimed North of 6's tower, centering right in the  middle of the antenna farm. I would try aiming just South of 6's tower. You may nituice a slight decrease in the strength of all the others, but you should still be able to lock on them... and decrease 12's interference.

Let me know if that works.

So, I'm assuming that means that I'll turn the front of the antenna south (or to the right if I'm standing behind it), right?

I'll try it this weekend.... don't know how much room I'll have to move it, as it is jammed in there between the support beams for the roof.

What signal reading do I need to get an acceptable signal for watching?  I assume that when I get a better channel 6 signal, I'll lose some of the 58 signal, correct?

Considering the power difference between WISN & WITI, I doubt it will do any good using a garden variety 20 degree plus beamwidth antenna.  Good luck though!

and after locating the wood crossmembers (so I wouldn't step on the drywall and fall through the room below), I was able to adjust the attenna, AND...

CBS 58 - I lost a little signal - from 71 to 68
NBC 4 - stayed the same
ABC 12 - stayed the same
18 - stayed the same
24 - improved from 82 to 87

AND

FOX 6 went from low teens (14) to HIGH 50's to peaking in the low 60's!!

This means I do now have a watchable signal!  I never thought it would be possible.  I moved the attenna aiming about 3-4 inches to the east (it was pointed southeast).  I didn't adjust it much, but it was just enough to pull in a watchable signal.

At what point does the signal become unwatchable?  I've either had readings on my other channels over 70 or in the teens, so I don't have a good feeling on what the cutoff point is.  I'm guessing it is in the mid 40's???

I am excited.. now if I can just get Directv to fix the HD Tivo glitch that causes 58-1 to be mapped to 58-2, and likewise 58-2 to map to 58-3, I'll be extremely happy!  I can watch those channels, but because the mapping is screwed up, it makes it difficult to be able to record those channels (the guide has them mapped correctly).

Thanks for eveyone's feedback!

I got a watchable signal from Fox 6 at 44. however the next step before 44 (40) was pretty much unwatchable.

unfortunately remember.. it isn't a low signal that makes a channel unwatchable, it is frequent drops to an even lower signal. How solid is your 50's? If it is rock solid, than even taking a few points off of it for bad weather you should be ok.. if it is kind of wild and all over the place, bad weather will probably have a more noticeable effect on you.

My Fox 6 after split to my Tivo is 70 (93 on other STBs). But it is a rock solid 70. never even budging an inch either way. During the worst storms this year it still came in at a 58 and wasn't budging.

Unfortunately, my signal does bounce around quite a bit - from low 50's to low 60's, so so far I've been ok...

granted it has only been 1 day so far - we'll see how it is in the long run...

Borghe, have you had any success or have an update on the channel 58 mapping issue (subchannels shifted up one) as of yet???

borghe

no success.... :bang:

the solace I take is that NO patch has been released. hopefully it will be contained in the first patch. :(

Fox 6 signal bounced between 40-50.. making it unwatchable...

Looks like it'll be a hit or miss deal for me until FOX replaces the 9 volt batteries in their signal tower....

You might want to try aiming your antenna higher.  If trees are making your signal bounce, aiming higher might help.  It worked for me.

Good luck,
