Perhaps some of you have seen the promo's for ABC News Now, a new news delivery format being rolled out by ABC for the upcoming party conventions.

For an in-depth analysis, please see this  link.

Anyway, I asked my contact at WISN if the station was participating. Here's the unedited response:

QuoteUnfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) we will almost certainly not be doing this.

1.  Our Master control system will not support multiple program paths.  i.e. regular programming with regular commercials while doing a 2nd channel of programming with other commercials (although I don't know if ABC would leave room for local availabilities).

2.  Our Flexicoder has only 1 SD input, and 1 'encoding session'.  The Flexicoder is the box that takes uncompressed HD (or SD) video and encodes it to a SMPTE 310 transport stream at 19.1Mbs.  There are several versions of the Flexicoder that allow for more input/output/encoding cards, but ours is fully populated.
So, I thought I'd share the info with the group.

Please discuss ...

WBAY channel 2 in Green Bay is going to start broadcasting this Monday. I think it's going to be on 23-2. There was an article in the Press-Gazette about this. I guess 65 stations are going to use this on their digital signal.
