I find it completely stupid to pay for channels that are free over the air.  I understand there is cost of retransmission etc.  I don't care.  Cable has been screwing the viewers over for so many years people are just used to it.  Why is cable cost going up. ?? did they add new stations..? NO.  Digital cable is hardly digital. and you have to rent the remote! Everything has its positives and negatives I find cable to be mostly negative.
My main point is that the over the AIR stations should first work on making their improvements to over the AIR equipment.  as in broadcast Digital or HD over the air on your own (not multicast) then worry about running fiber to cable company.
That's fine.  I respect your opinion.  But again, maybe your assumptons are getting in your way a little.  What makes you think local broadcasters worry about fiber feeds?  IMO, the transmitter is where their bread & butter is made.  Maybe cbs can only justify the transmitter cost if they provide all 3 of their services there.  Once hd eyballs grow to some majic number, maybe things will change.  Noone here really knows the business model...

Being where I live I am glad I have cable for my "free" locals including HD. I just feel sticking 507 in the middle of the HD channel lineup is confusing and silly. Make if 557 or something else if that is how cable wants to/has to manage it. :D

As far as making some of the analogue stations at least digital in delivery (like satellite does), I have my list just like everybody, at least it has channels that have original programmes, unlike WMLW. :(

Note the above listing for Time Warner cable in Austin, Texas.
In addition to having HD DVRs out already, they have channels 58 for Sci-Fi analogue and 535 in digital (for better picture).

;)

Milwaukee TWC: It just shows there is a difference between can't and won't - you won't do digital delivery like satellite and think us subscribers do not know any better. Well - I do.

I would like to know if the 58 multicast is by necessity (don't have the ability to put up the hardware) or by convinience (that would cost money and too few people watch it so too bad let's just ripp off the bandwidth on the main channel)... based on previous experience I'd say it's convinience.  as for cable it has it's place make it completely ala carte... let me choose every channel I want to pay for and will talk... I'm not interested in paying for 8 channels of Home Shopping.

I feel like I'm repeating myself.. no clue how that happened. :D

Quotethe baseline of facts here are misleading... no, they are simply wrong. things have changed sinse posts of a year or six months ago. so please stop bashing the cable co.
We'll see
Quotefact- low power stations are not required to be carried on cable systems.
Ok.
Quotefact- 41 & 63 are low power stations
Ok
Quoteact- channel 63 is now on analog channel 66.
Why? You said it is not required to be carried.
Quotefact- weigel broadcasting is in control of digital bandwidth... noone else.
I don't see anything here to prove this point.  Why is there no fiber connection to a station braodcasting three stations in the TWC market, one of which is a big three affiliate? Same goes for $inclair's two stations. Why not?  We deserve an answer.

Quotenow; with all due respect (and i mean that!), find your business calculators, do some math and point your collective frustrations elsewhere. your off-air cbs-hd bandwidth woes are not rooted in the cable industry.

Wrong. You stated that low power stations aren't required to be carried. Yet, you're encouraging and contributing to the poor quality recieved by your customers by carrying a station broadcasting on digital multicast OTA. What sort of service is that? They watch a bunch of blocks in the Fall and you sell it to them? If you are going to carry these stations you  should

1) Insist on fiber
2) Only rebroadcast an analog feed as it doesn't suffer the same fate.

Time Warner cable is the primary reason for the  atroicious quality of 41 and 63 on TWC. We, your customers, don't care who lays the fiber. We insisit that it be done if you charge us for this programming. Otherwise give us other programming that is viewable.

I need to clarify...
analog 63 is being carried on analog 66.

Just because something is 'not required' dosen't mean it won't happen... and you must not watch them too much...I think WMLW looks much better lately.

I must be one of the only people who doesn't mind the multicast; down here in the sticks (Elkhorn) picking up channel 41 OTA and 63 OTA is impossible, but we get the digital signal on channel 46 just fine. Sure 41 and 63 might not have much on, except fot the local sports occasionally on 41, and the Brewers games on Sundays on 63 (grrr, don't get me started on a rant about that) so we're either watching the digital signal here or being left out.

I'm not sure what people are complaining about anyway... when the badgers are on, not enough bandwidth is provided for the 41 SD service.  When something is on hd, there is not enough dedicated there either.
Can somebody pass me my cake and a fork?:D
