Just an FYI to those effected:

I don't know if this has been discussed before as I am relatively new to this group. For those of you with Sony RPTV's I have had a major problem. Apparently Sony is aware that some of their CRT RPTV have an issue with a Cathode coating on the picture tubes resulting in a flicker and a problem in hue. My set just melted down. When you turn it on everything goes as red as my face after finding this info out. You also notice a small flicker especially when watching dark material. The picture does clear after some time but will continue to flicker.

Bad news it effects sets after about 6 months of operating and Sony reports the problem with various models (they have a technical bulletin on their site listing models effected-sorry no thread).

Good news is they have extended the warranty. If this is the problem they will replace at 100%.

Their is only one authorized warranty center in our area- Mr. TV Service who just assessed my set on friday. All three tubes will need to be replaced and they have to take it in to do it. So no HD for awhile. Repair dude says set will be like new as the tubes going in are by panasonic and are actually better then what are in there now.

Sorry for the long post! Has anyone out there had this problem?

Paul S.

I'd trust him as far as I could throw him. Make sure he does a complete focus on your set afterwards!!!

That is a problem with some of those repairs.  They only replace the parts and don't do any tuning.
