Rogers Cable will support the rollout of high-definition/digital video recording services with digital set-tops from Motorola Broadband and Scientific-Atlanta in markets such as New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Ontario.

Rogers said it will rent out the Motorola Broadband DCT6208 for $19.95 per month. Customers may also purchase the box, which can record up to 10 hours of HD programming or 50 hours of SD, for $699.

The Canadian MSO is offering S-A's dual-tuner Explorer 8000 HD for $24.95 per month, or $799 if customers opt to purchase it at retail. The S-A set-top can record up to 20 hours of HD and 90 hours of SD. Rogers is also charging a $1.99 monthly "service fee" for the HDDVR boxes.

Last November, Rogers began marketing the SD-only Explorer 8000.

If all goes right this month of June (sometime) we will get our HD DVRs
(called from our waiting list that we were put on by request) :

And all we will spend is the usual $12.95 per month for box and DVR fee as we did with the SD box, right?

(or $14.90/month if you don't do any DigiPic packages from TWC).

Looks like a winner here in SE Wisconsinland!

(That is what you are trying to tell us, right?)

The SA is definitely a 160GB model.. The motorola sounds like it is shipping with an 80GB drive..

mhz40, are you privy to what the final drive size will be that TWC Milwaukee is ordering for their 8000HD's?

borghe

according to the data sheet the 8000HD only ships with either an 80GB or 160GB drive. So unless things have changed from the data sheet Milwaukee will probably get the 20 hour version.

I'm not sure, but the $25 per month is probably in Canadian Dollars, if it is CAD then it is more like $18USD.  Still a bit more expensive for sure assuming (hopefully) the HD DVR from TWC won't be priced much different than the SD DVR.

Reading the HDTVoice forum, the Canadians are getting them and for now, are enjoying them and reporting any concerns.

Soon now, hopefully, we will continue the thread and have to post ours, too.;)
