What does 7S satellite mean for us here in the Milwaukee area?

I see that they're putting some locals (not Milw), and doing spot beaming on it.

Does it mean that theres more space on the other Sat(s) for additional HD content that we'll recieve in the future? Like TNT HD.

That's what we are hoping! :)

In short it will give more bandwith for more local channels in new markets for D*, better PQ on existing SD channels and more importantly more HD content should be available.  Nobody knows of what channels will be added yet although FOXHD has already been announced as one of them.

We will be getting the east coast FOX HD feed when they put FOX HD on D* because milwaukee's fox affiliate is an O&O.

D* has also said they will be putting more HD football games on the Sunday ticket this year as well.

Thanks guys,

Does any know what exactly we might get?  I hear lots of rumors, but D* plays it close to the vest...;)

nothing is for certain..

basically I believe 8 conus transponders will be freed up by moving existing channels to spots on 7s. This can be used to either increase picture quality on existing channels or add new HD/SD channels... everyone keeps pointing to more locals, but personally I don't see D* wasting more conus bandwidth on LIL. They are now moving ahead with DirecTV5 moving to 72.5° and will likely add more locals through that (as well as the existing spotbeams).

The bottom line is that in the meantime, once the conus LILs are moved to the spots, expect an increase in quality across many stations... after that who knows.. I expect more channels but won't even venture a guess as to when (aside from after this month).

borghe,

they just started going live with the first batch of new locals a few days ago.

If you look at the D* information channel they have a list of the new markets that are going live in june.  I didn't count them but it looks about at least 30 or so.

Thanks for the info guys.

It's to wait and see what they will exactly do.  It is exiciting, the prospect of getting more HD content!
