Why is it that audio is louder when it is run through the VCR  to the reciever as opposed to a digital coax from box to reciever?

The Law

To compensate for the noise the tape makes when it's spinng

Go to the settings on the 3150HD, there is a setting for analog out audio volume. I think it defaults to 90%.

I'm saying the digital out volume is too quiet.

I checked the name of the setting, and it doesn't say "analog". Try changing it, it may affect both.
