Well hopefully if TWC can fix the problem here I can again watch CH 506.  Even 504 was breaking up last night during ER.

summerfun

Yes, 506 has been coming in at 720p on TWC. Also, I watched ER last night and it came in just fine.

Bigdog

Hopefully it is either the box (which he better have a replacement for) or something easily fixed.  I think my wife might go insane if during Preakness tomorrow the screen does the jitters and breaks up...

If I had to put my money on what your problem is Bigdog, I would bet that you have a signal leak somewhere.  If this is the case they should be able to detect just by driving up to your house.  I had the exact problems you are mentioning and it turned out to be a bad splitter.  Took about two minutes to fix.
Good Luck

Bigdog

Hopefully soon they will be here (supposed to be by 4PM) and can fix it.  506 has been out since atleast Tuesday (no picture at all) and the other HD channels are breaking up. Not sure if it is from all the rain we've had or something else.

gparris

I will assume the TWC has fixed your installation for better HD channel flow through by now.:D
When I had my line installed if I had more than 4 active lines into the house a amplifier was installed, at no charge and my HD and RR problems went away.
Packman04 is probably right about the connections, too.
Let us know what happened. Thanks!

Back to the thread, borghe was right about the 720p signal as the shows, even though they say:
"Fox Widescreen" all look much better than before. I can tell the difference: Keifer (on "24") needed to shave, badly. The upclose details were no longer missing, HD can get interesting like this.

Thank you, WITI-TV,  for sending out the 720p HDTV signals, finally. :)

No all you can do is appease those who can't (or won't) subscribe to TWC for your signal would be getting the OTA  fixed, finally, and anything else you are doing HD (per borghe).

no no no... the signal is going out in 720p, but the improvements you guys are seeing are mostly psychosematic... it is still a 480p signal and there is no increased quality added in the upconversion.

you see an improvement in 1080i upconverts, not because it is converted to a higher resolution but because it is encoded at the master and reaches your set exactly as it was received at the master. with the analog signal OTa and over cable, there is tons of loss between the master and your set.

480p won't have that. 480p doesn't look any better when upconverted to 720p by fox than it does when my STB upconverts it 1080i.

per my contact's basic comments, the 720p signal will provide no noticeable increase in quality. it is merely the first step in preparing to receive Fox's native 720p signal later this year.

but don't let my comments dissuade you.. afterall, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Bigdog

Well he came yesterday and changed some wiring around as we have 2 splitters feeding 5-6 outlets,  2 TV's with no box, 1 digital SD box, 1 HD box, and a RR connection. The HD now works again which is good so she could watch the Preakness in HD.  The analog channels are still bad with or without a box.  He said we definitely need an amp and thinks the Pioneer box is also flakey so has to come back next week with a new box and an amp. He said the signal level was marginal so hopefully that will help a lot.  Hopefully if all goes well he will be back on Tuesday so Tuesday night can watch 24 in HD with the new box and amp.

It sounds like some people are confused here.  Fox is not sending out high definition signals right now.  That will start at a later date.  Our local Fox station is sending out their digital signal as 720P, but everything is being upconverted to that resolution.  This is not high definition.

The good news is that they are making moves in preperation for the coming high definition signals from the Fox network.

As you know I live in Muskego.

I just got back from vacation. I was away for 5 days.  I was hoping to find a DTV signal on ch. 33.

Still no WITI-DT.

Work has been crazy.  I'm stressed and need to get away.  Eric, how long would you recommend I be gone?

Is anyone else getting stronger signals lately on 6-1?  Is it weather related or has the antenna been moved?

I have been getting a great picture in Germantown lately.   They must have improved something in that transmitter just recently.   There are no dropouts and the signal is HD although not as sharp as CBS I will take it for now.   What was annoying to me before was the pixelation and the shakiness in the picture.    It seems fine now.   Bring on the packer games!

dlhoppe

Still nothing in West Bend.  I have pretty good reception capabilities and I still can't get anything from Fox.  I'm sure looking forward to when the new transmitter gets turned on.
