I installed one of these 3 weeks ago and have 2 separate problems.
The first is that after setting up a "Custom" channel guide, everytime I press the Guide button the "ALL CHANNELS" guide pops up. If I want to use the Custom guide I have to press the guide button a 2nd time to get the Guide menu and scroll down to the Custom setting. Then as soon as I finish with the guide, the next time the Guide is accessed it has defaulted back to All Channels again. I emailed LG about this and received "
Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Your e-mail has been received. When that happens, it is because the broadcaster is updating the PSIP data. Once they are finished with this, the box will retain the custom guide. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics. "Think the Best and One Team Spirit".

This doesn't seem to help as far as an answer. Is there a fix or maybe a firmware upgrade?

The 2nd problem - about once a week when changing channels I receive a "No Signal" message on a channel that I should normally receive - it varies as to what channel this happens on. Then, with that message displayed, the receiver will not respond to any remote commands for about a minute - not even "Power Off". Finally the screen will show that something to the effect "creating channel list, this may take a few minutes". It does take a few minutes but then everything is functional until the next time. Is this a problem with the memory in the receiver? Should I exchange the box or will they all do this? I called LG on this and they say that DirecTV is doing an update on May 10th that will fix "memory" problems and to wait and see if that fixes it.

It sounds like you need to wait for the firmware update that will come from the satellite.  I don't have any experience with your box but I know that they do send the updates to all boxes via the Directv satellites.

Let us know what happens when the update date passes.  You should also make note of the firmware revision you have in the box now so you can check it and see for a fact that the update did happen.

Where do I find the revision number of the firmware currently installed?

Gregg Lengling

It usually in one of the screens for info...you have to dig deep in the menus...

I think the LG and your Sony 300 have  the same hardware.

The Sony HD-300 and Hughes HTL-HD are made by LG.

This is a problem everyone is having.  They have been working on a fix for awhile.  I have the very receiver.  There is no real talk about fixing the guid info.  Directv is going to make this standard. It has something to do with viewing all the channels.  Don't ask, I think it is stupid also.

DTV must have transmitted an update. Last nite I checked the version and there was an update 2.0 dated May 12, 2004.

I didn't really have a chance to fool around with stuff last night, but it appeared that the menu no longer defaulted to All Channels.

Now if only more channels could be offered in HD or WITI would broadcast in HD!

I did take advantage of DTV's $99 HD upgrade when I got this LG box a few weeks ago. This was the package that included an OTA antennae. FWIW, it was a great deal - I receive all of the local channels OTA. The installer was more surprised than I was when  it worked.

The only thing I still want to try is if I can get any secondary markets OTA. I'm in Greenfield, what are my chances of picking up another market?

Same here on my Sony SATHD300...upgraded software on 5/12/04 to version 2.00.00

Haven't played with the prefs yet to see if it's fixed though.

bubbaridesfast - your chances of a secondary market are slim to none.. to far from chicago to likely get anything and too much hilly terrain between you and madison.

I asked larry nuens about this when he installed my antenna in february and he saide south racine was the closest you would get consistent signals from Chicago and west waukesha was the closest you could hope to get most channels from Madison.
