$248 was the actual sent price, new unit. http://store.yahoo.com/mytvremote-com/10004.html

I am to recieve it on Tuesday

Let us know what you think of it!

Try it with your favorite DVD - this worked for me- I ended up watching the movie all over again...it was like watching it for the first time!
Make sure you are using good component-video cables and make sure you set the unit for "progressive scan" and let the Faroudja processing begin!:)
Additionally, my players do not have that disc-layer "buffer" like this one has, so it would be great if you find it works good. Maybe you won't even notice a "freeze" in the picture on this player when the laser jumps to the second layer during a movie! ;)

Got it today in perfect working order and popped in Monsters Inc. Kick a$$!!!

Paul,  I've been looking at getting one of these for a while now, but I tend to be a bit skeptical. So could you tell me:  what is your first impression of this player?  Is the PQ difference really all that noticeable?   Thanx! :)

The PQ over my Sony is kicka$$. Ive heard so much about the Fahroudja (sp) chip- now I 'see' why lol.

On a side note, I see that you had your set calibrated by Eliab. He's comin over on May 28th to do mine. What package did you get and was it worth it?

I got the "director" package which with tax came to $565.
It included seting white balance, HD tweaks, overscan adjustment, convergence, electrostatic and mechanical focus, optics cleaning, Duvedrape, mirror blanking, SVM disablement, and glare screen removal.
There were a few noticeable things afterward: Colors look more natural, blacks look blacker, the picture is more crisp...
The glare screen removal made a huge difference (I used to hate all the reflections from lights/windows) although I do get worried about not having it on the TV when my 4 year old niece comes over. ;)
He actually came all the way back here the next day (his day off) and spent a few hours with me showing me how to get into the service menu and touch up convergence.

Overall I'd have to say that I definitely saw an improvement, but it wasn't quite as big a difference as what I was hoping for...
If I ever get another HDTV, I'll probably do all the tweaks that I now know how to do myself first (judging by your posts over on the SPOT you seem to have a good idea what you're doing in this area too), and then decide if I want to pay to have an ISF tech calibrate it - or at least have them set the grey scale.

Good luck with your set, you'll like Eliab he's cool!

P.S. - When you're driving Eliab to/from your place, try to not get pulled over.  I found it to be a rather embarrassing experience!

LMFAO!

Who are you at the SPot?

Yeah, I got waaay brave waaay fast when it came to using the service menu. I like it- kinda like when I used to rip random parts from my Mustang (that I sold for an engagement ring!) and toss in 'faster' parts. I loved doing that! So, I guess my Sony is my new Mustang.

...someday we'll buy a Cobra >sigh<...
