Kyodo News International, Tokyo
Mar. 11--TOKYO -- Pioneer Corp. said Thursday it will recall for free inspection and repair six models of its high-definition plasma television sets and a plasma monitor model that may have defective circuit boards.

Subject to the recall are a total of 51,700 units of the plasma TV models PDP-433HD-S, PDP-433HD-U, PDP-A433HD-S, PDP-A433HD-U, PDP-503HD and PDP-A503HD and the PDP-503PRO plasma monitor.

They were manufactured between September 2001 and January 2004 for the domestic market, Pioneer said.

Problems could occur in display and media receiver parts due to excess elasticity of the circuit boards, which may expand or contract too much and cause cracks in soldered parts, a company spokeswoman said.

If cracks occur, they may cause power to automatically shut down or prevent clear images for digital broadcasting satellite programs.

The defects pose no safety risks such as fire, the company said.
